Peter Jok statement/confidence game

Some poster predicted he'd break out tonight so good call there.

It seems that it's important to get him going early. He gets going on cruise control when he starts well.

Aside from that, he played excellent defense compared to past games. No steals I don't think but just solid man defense.

Tonight, Jok became a MAN against Michigan State.
His 19 points in the first half ignited the Hawkeye
attack. He hit three 3 pointers to make his presence
felt before halftime. His total of 23 points for the game
was a statement that other Big Ten teams will need to
respect. Thank You Peter Jok for a great game.

He actually picked someone's pocket at the top of the key and was matched up with Valentine quite a few times tonight. Just played a great all around game. He's got such a sweet shooting stroke, when he's hitting it is a thing of beauty.

That mid range jumper off the curl is fantastic.

I think Peter pointed out something in his post game interview that can be somewhat overlooked, He said that the main thing they worked on during the past 9 days is rebounding and blocking out, Early in the year I didn't feel like the Hawks were a very good rebounding team, I think that aspect of this team is continually moving in the right direction as the season progresses. Props to Fran and staff for making this a point of emphasis.

When Jok makes shots they do not just rattle in they basically drop through barely touching the cords of the net. Unreal shooter.

I am waiting for the night when he hits 15 straight. It's coming.

Kudos to him for improving his defensive play something I never saw coming when we signed him.

When those two are "on" at the same time it's basically game over.

They hit shots when they are being well defended and there's nothing else opponents can do.

Man is this ^^^^^ true Rock.....game, set, match. Like Calhoun was saying it's like watching the NBA when these two shoot like that.... It's what I see too when I watch them shoot _ NBA. Ya want to take the living heart out of a true road crowd like tonight....Exhibit A - Jarrod and Peter shooting 3's like they did tonight.

Did I say how much I luv this team?

What's most impressive is that his shots aren't coming from spotting up opposite the action. He's moving great without the ball. When he has the ball, it's obvious that his handles have REALLY improved this year (he was a TO machine at times last year). And his defense has improved dramatically since his freshman year.

we have never had two as pure shooters/shot makers as Jok and JU IMO. Hawks also have five other significant 3 point shooters in NB, MG, AC and DU along with BE. Could be an epic year for Hawks if they stay hot and use the team aspect!

Hearing Calhoun talk about how good our offense looked tonight, I was thinking back to four years ago when we had that stretch where Marble was off his game and how hard it was for us to generate points. At the time I was impressed with some of the looks that Fran was able to get us with such limited options, having to run JO all over to try to draw defensive attention. Now with guys who can shoot in the same offense, the floor seems so open. Uthoff, Jok, Uhl all drawing attention on the perimeter, Gesell able to drive and kick much easier, things just flow so much better, it was just a matter of getting the right players in place.

And next year it will be Jok and Dom replacing JU and Jok. Fran has it rolling.

Jok's ball-handling was atrocious prior to this year, and so far he's been pretty darn good in his limited dribbling. They started to come out on him and he took it to the hole a couple times, really liked that as well. Not real good with his back to the basket though...........ha! The thing that always worries me about him, it seems when he makes a few nice squared up 3's, then he just wants to start heaving them every time he touches the ball, and he just isn't near as good then, but he had a great game overall for sure. Didn't do much in the 2nd half, but he and the others were ON FIRE in the 1st half. Ballgame.

That kid flat out eviscerated them. When he gets hot this team can beat anybody.
What has really amazed me is we seem to have different guys stepping up.....not totally reliant on JU having a great game. Makes this team very dangerous moving forward.

He's never going to be a primary ball handler but he can hold his own as a secondary option. Attack close outs hard, some pick and roll stuff, he also has a real nice little stutter dribble - step back move that lets him get a shot off almost every time.

Yep bobby was thinking this too tonight. Just watching the highlights again (can't get enough of this win) but Dom's play and confidence growing is eye popping....he is going to be another special player for us and loved those two tip ins tonight....huge. It will have to be Jok and Dom next year and I think the Baer trap will be a bucket maker too stepping up. I know he was off on his one 3 tonight but I knew his little side 10 footer was money and not an easy shot to make either. He has a great stroke. And Brady's stroke will come around as well. His shot/stroke is too good to not start going in.

That is exactly why they're so dangerous. They have multiple guys who have gone off for 20+ a game, and are getting really solid bench minutes from Uhl and Baer. How big was Uhl in the first half. Two big put backs and drops a couple treys. 10 pts, 5 boards in 17 minutes off the bench.

They went 10 deep this game and none of the young guys hurt them due to inexperience.

Just an overall phenomenal team effort.

How far back do you want to go? Brown and Johnson were good.

In the post-game interview with the announcers he went on and on about using the long layoff to their advantage. Probably just wishful thinking on my part. But I wanna believe the football team's magic is rubbing off on Fran's team. Can you imagine how this board will be feeling if the BBall team has a season like the FBall team.

There were so many guys hitting 3s last night, I was laughing out loud after shots time and again. This team is so strong with the jump shot. Like others have pointed out, it's very hard on a defense when you have 2 guys hitting outside shots well because it stretches the defense and it doesn't do you a lot of good to focus on 1 guy. But besides Jok's incredible shooting, Uthoff hit some back-breakers, and then guys like Uhl, Clemmons, and MG even hit some.

Naw...no magic, not a perfect schedule, just a real good team. Iowa is 12th in the country in SOS, we have two of the three true road wins over top 15 teams in all of college basketball this year. We're actually 281st in KenPom's luck category, so it's not even a matter of pulling out a lot of close games. We're beating teams soundly.

That was sweet. You found a way to put a negative spin on a team compliment. You're alright studly.

It's great how we turned a team weakness into a team strength this year.

I didn't take it like that.

Hes just pointing out that what the bball team has done is actually considerably more impressive given who where and how they have beat teams.

Wins at MSU and Purdue is like winning at OSU and MSU in football.
