Peter Navarro, a former adviser to Donald Trump who served prison time for refusing to cooperate with the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, will have a senior role in Trump’s second administration, the president-elect announced Wednesday. Trump plans to make Navarro his senior counselor for trade and manufacturing, he said on Truth Social. Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth, Trump’s embattled choice for defense secretary, vowed Wednesday to keep fighting for the job amid reports that Trump is considering replacing him with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). Senate confirmation of Hegseth, a former Fox News host, is in jeopardy amid skepticism about his qualifications for the job and allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking.
