Looks like he will be looking for a job after this season. Who would sign the petition to bring him back and replace GD?

I actually haven't much of a gripe with GD this season. I think it's pretty apparent his scheme needs a mobile QB to work. Having said that, I wish we had KOK's ability to get the TE's more involved. We have the talent there, but they don't seem to be the featured bunch they used to be.

KOK + Kirk 3.0...could = Fireworks

maybe? My impression was that while KOK was here, he was given a very short leash...

Whoever we bring in...one thing is clear. We need someone who can recruit and coach the quarterbacks very well or even exclusively. Elevated quarterback play (wisconsin game aside) this season has been fun, but I feel like we're kind of lucky in what we have with CJ (mobility, leadership, confidence, strong arm, good decisions, etc.)

i would sign it. i was wondering this am if anyone would get on this topic.

With the head coach out, does that mean the rest of the staff, or some of it, is about to get the axe?

I loved the look of KOK's offenses and was one of the few who wasn't repeatedly calling for his head. I agree that I think KF 1.0 had him on a pretty short leash and his creativity could shine under KF 3.0. The TD pass vs. Wisconsin was very KOK of GD. I loved it.

I thought about the idea of KOK or Philbin replacing GD; however, I would hate to see anything derail CJB's Senior year. I remember all to well what happened to James Vandenberg's senior season when GD replaced KOK. I will qualify that CJB is a much better talent than James Vandenberg was.

Yah, GD did a fabulous job of making Wisconsin's defense look like a combination of the Steel Curtain and the Iron Curtain, especially in the second half. Sure, Wisconsin's good, but I'm surprised there were no Superman sightings since the second half was played in a phone booth.

Wisconsin was Pitt part 2, so what happened to the offensive scheme Iowa used so successfully against Pitt? GD have a senior moment the last half in Madison?

GD can't leave soon enough.

No big supporter of Greg Davis although I am impressed so far. Bring back Ken O'Keefe? No. Nothing personal. Just if and when we move on from GD, we need to look elsewhere.

Is this a serious thread? I swear 5 years after GD leaves some fans will want him back. KOK was routinely roasted on this board! The only think that has changed is that we may have found someone worse.

Of course, I know ... KOK was an offensive genius and KF kept him under wraps. Bull.

I think KOK was a good play caller. Run to set up play action and utilized TE's.

Remember this when you mock that 'KF kept him under wraps,' KOK wanted to start Stanzi but KF kept forcing him to play Christensen. We all know how that panned out...

I'd bet good money that Brian Ferentz is the next OC. If not here, he will land a job somewhere else with that title soon

Never know what you got till it's gone, huh? Everyone wanted KOK gone until he just left on his own. Now people want to sign a petition to bring him back. Does he even want to come back?

Yes, as I recall, KOK got his way. Maybe not immediately, but after a couple of games. Thanks for proving my point.

Anyone bitching about our offense this year is a freaking retard and should never, ever, EVER be allowed to watch Iowa play football, ever again.

Well, you make an eloquent point, Rocky, but allow me to retort. If Greg Davis can't figure out how to block one guy for an entire half against Wisconsin, I am allowed to bitch.

KOK was criticized as much as Greg Davis is and has been in the past few years. Even Drew Tate took a shot at KOK by saying the opponent's defenses knew what was coming. I've come to believe it's not so much the OC as it's the QB running the Iowa offense. The more mobile the QB the more defenses have to account for his running ability and the better chance Iowa receivers will have to get open. It's also good that CJ has a good arm and can throw ball down field. I just hope when CJ is gone that Iowa can find somebody to fill his shoes.

To be fair, Wisconsin's defense will probably be the toughest defense Iowa faces this year. Add in Iowa had a first time starter at WR and LT and was playing at their place...last Saturday was very predictable from an outcome standpoint.

You can blather on about not being able to block one guy and all that, but if you bring protection over to help on Schobert, someone else get's exposed. So, it's a walk-on terrorizing you, or it's a guy with better physical attributes doing it.

Take your pick.

Threads about this specific subject aren't really relevant until both Miami's and Iowa's season ends...then you can rant all about it then. Me? I'm enjoying 5-0, cause that's all the matters at this point.

Pettition to bring back KOK after game 5, with a 5-0 record...sheesh, some people are indeed NEVER happy.

I think Davis finally realized he needed to cook with the ingredients in the cupboard rather than try to make his old recipes work with whats on hand. No more read option looks, more bootleg, more down field throws, misdirection/motion to deceive.

Since I'm apparently just "blathering" anyway, I'll just go ahead and ask you what your rambling, nonsense sentence means. Seriously, if we leave a running back in to block, to just slow Schobert down on his way to crushing Beathard, how does this "expose" anyone, exactly? But I guess I'm just blathering again.

Well, what exactly was Iowa supposed to do to cover Schobert then? They're running some defenses Iowa hasn't seen prior, they don't have a solution within the gameplan, they'd then be running stuff they hadn't practiced all week.

Also, I listened to the game on radio, Wisconsin's broadcast. Throughout the entire game, their color guy was raving about Canzeri's pass blocking. Which to me means that Iowa indeed was keeping their RB's in on pass protection (removing a potential target in the process - a target already missing their best WR all game).

Why can't it be that Wisconsin's just simply pretty good on defense? That it HAS to be bad play-calling, bad in-game adjustments - and it cannot possibly be that Schobert is pretty good? Do you honestly expect me to believe that Iowa at no point during the game though to themselves...gee, maybe we need to block that guy...and then decided NOT TO TRY?

Schobert leas the NATION in TFL's and sacks, and is tied in forced fumbles. The Nation.

Read the attached article..."As seen in the Hawaii game, a running back cannot contain No. 58."

I could be wrong, but I don't recall Canzeri being back in pass protect for most of the 2nd half - which is when Schobert took over. Yes, he is very, very good, but he shouldn't be able to effect every other play.

U can hold a TE in to block or a back. If he's over pursuing u may also try misdirection or screen plays in his area. Sometimes a o-lineman is just not good enough or quick enough to handle a player like 58. If u concentrate to stop one guy something else opens up for someone else. Sometimes u just have to give a player his due and realize he's just pretty good. 58 reminded me of a Roth, a Tibbett, or a King. The guy has a motor and is determine to make a play.

Changing Offensive Coordinators and schemes would likely set us back a couple years. It's taken 3 years to get the kinks worked out since the last switch.

Just can't enjoy being 5-0 can you???? Dear lord KOK was routinely blasted much like GD is now, some of it deserved but most was not in both cases....
How stupid is this thread, hey we have a 5-0 ranked team that just went on the road in won at the toughest venue to win a game in the nation against the team favored to win our division, 2-0 on trophy games (both road victories) and we have some dumbass posting a thread about a petition to switch up the staff....as if a damn fan petition would mean anything?!?!

The DE on the other side was all conference player last year so sliding protection that way allows the other DE to make plays too. Iowa was playing without starting RB, by far best WR, best TE, and starting left. Tackle so there is that. QB starting only his 6th game so there is that. And our wrs tes not getting separation doesn't help (smith and Duzey would have helped) and oh yeah Wisconsin is pretty damn good too

Why not enjoy the season? Why the F^^^ even post this? Back the coaches and the players. They are at least in theory, your team.

Lots of bunched up panties in this thread. Iowa's old OC is going to be looking for a job at the end of the season. It was pretty common knowledge that when GD was hired he wouldn't be here too long. Why not have a little fun with a hypothetical situation? Good grief.
