Just booked a flight to visit my mom in Gilbert over Christmas. I’d really like to get some input on things to do, see and eat in the metro area.

Is there any place to watch Midlands in Phoenix?

A cousin my age, also going through a divorce, will be flying in from Iowa as well so we might actually have the opportunity to do a little hooting and hollaring!

I googled cannabis in AZ and it appears they have medical dispensaries. While the prices are crazy compared to Oregon, my OR med card is valid in AZ.

On the other hand, nobody in the Eugene airport has ever sweated me for flying out with weed. (I live in a crazy town!)

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sandbar Mexican Grill is a Hawkeye hangout. One in Desert Ridge Tatum/101 and also one in Chandler I think. If you’re gonna be in Gilbert the one in Chandler will be close.

There’s also an Irish bar in Mesa called RT O’Sullivans that used to be a Hawkeye hangout. Not sure if that’s still around.

Go hike Camelback and Pinnacle Peak.

Dub-

I can recommend the Iowa cafe in Mesa and you can get a breakfast pork loin and gable size it (it’s really a thing) It’s on Higley and Brown. If you are wanting to watch wrestling Blackford Duals will be happening at at ASU on 12/27-12/28.

Probably a good place to eat also would be the Hub in East Mesa for bar and some awesome smoked wings.

Enjoy the East Valley. Safe Travels.

Dirks Bentleys downtown Gilbert. Rock and Roll Beer flow Camel Toe.

Bentleys place is called "Whiskey Row." Just ate across the street at Barrio Queen Sun night. Stayed in Gilbert with fam and best friends fam last week until Monday.

You have to check out the Thirsty Lion (Irish Pub) at San Tan villiage in Gilbert. One of my favs and best Shepards Pie I've ever had.

If your doing Camelback, you better be in shape. It's not a liesurely stroll.

I'm not much help in chasing tail, been married 16 years. However, I do know Twin Peaks and Tilted Kilt have good beer and scenery. Depending on your age, night life around Tempe is great for youngsters, Old Town Scottsdale nightlife for those a little older.

Lastly, indoor skydiving and kart racing are a freakin' blast. Kart place up in Scottsdale and one in Phoenix. Not slow carts.

.

I think its Four Peaks in Tempe you're talking about, unless there also is a Twin Peaks. Great beer, good atmosphere.

I had a couple of extra days in Phoenix on a work trip a couple years back. I rented a Harley (around $200/day) and rode around the desert. If motorcycles are your cup of tea, do it, there are some great roads down there!

Immediately leave and go hike in Sedona.
And continue up to Flagstaff and visit Snow Bowl.

So, my mom decided to take us out for Christmas dinner rather than dine at home. I’d really appreciate suggestions on the best dining options in the area. They live in Gilbert but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Money isn’t really a consideration in this case.:)

Thanks in advance.

Maestros if you wanna splurge. Most have live music as well. One in old town and one in North Scottsdale. Maybe others in the burbs not sure.

Don and Charlie’s if you want old school Chicago style steakhouse. Awesome place. Call for reservations as it gets busy at least in March with the spring training crowd in town.

Second Maestros. The other Maestros is the Ocean Club in Kierland Commons in Scottsdale. You will drop some coin going there.

My mom told me that I’m required to go to church with them on Christmas Eve. She also told me she will eat sushi when hell freezes over.

So today I told her that I’ll go to the service with them if she goes out for sushi with me later in the week.

This should be interesting....

Any sushi suggestions for the Mesa area would be appreciated.:D

A lot of college kids there.
When visiting a buddy who lives by Fairfeild now, grows grapes, we started off with an Oxygen bar. We drank and did shots of o2. Also made a stupid bet about people water their lawns by 6 am. We made it through the night but at 6:06am I was amazed by people water their lawns. Moments later I passed out on his coffee table crushing it to the floor.
Dangerous combo Oxygen an beer El Dub :)

Blue Wasabi is decent in the San Tan Mall area. Not far from the Thirsty Lion Irish Pub I mentioned before!
