I belong as I'm not a big free weights guy.

$10 a month so you don't feel bad for not being there every day --- and since I do a lot of bike riding and other stuff, I typically only make it 2-3 times a week.

I am impressed at how clean and bright they keep things given the relatively high usage rate. And the one in Davenport recently upgraded all its equipment. It isn't a super nice gym, and the clientele can be a little rough-around-the-edges (due to price and being in Davenport, lol) but it's cheap and gets the job done for me.

Biggest drawback I can see is a better chance of running into someone who doesn't know possessive vs plural at a larger gym.

I have a membership as it's only a couple blocks from work, and I can either go at 6 am before I go into the office, or over my lunch hour and get a workout in. Never seen it "crowded".

I will say there is a wide range of slobs down to meatheads at the gym, but everyone has been at least decent to be around, and most will provide pointers on form when lifting.

I've had lower back issues, so I'm just trying to build more muscle right now, so can't comment on if they have enough weights at the heavy end, but for what I need, it works well.

Also, can take a guest for free, and I have at least one co-worker go with me a few times a week. Good for them, and good accountability for me.

Totally true. As noted by others, the dumbbells only go up to 75 pounds and they don’t have power racks. This might work well for some, but not for many.

It’s not the same and if you are being intellectually honest you would admit it. I’m not hating on planet fitness. It is great for some stuff and cheap. It’s not great for other stuff. The end.

PF is a pass for me. Need the free weights and power racks. I’m not a big feller but machines just don’t get the hydro as swole as he needs

I think if your goal is to lift weights and build mass, their equipment is lacking (or so I've read). If your goal is just to do cardio, I think you'd be just fine.

My gym is becoming too crowded for tumorboy. Never had a true commercial gym membership. What are the biggest draw backs of a Planet Fitness type membership. Besides all the Fatty's.
