Looking at the boards the last few days has me wondering, are there any players from the Fran era that people were actually sad to see go? Maybe Garza is the first but I don’t even know about that. Obviously no one from the Marble/White era teams. And certainly no one from the Gessell/Woodbury squads. Can’t get rid of JBo and Joe fast enough, I think most people wouldn’t mind everyone else but Keegan moving on and I’m sure that will even change in a year or two as he fails to fulfill their higher expectations.

Lol, “maybe” you’re sad to see Garza go??!!

Call me old fashion but I’m going to miss watching the greatest player in Iowa history play every night.

I’m weird like that I guess.

So is he the first player in the Fran era that you feel that way about? Seems like unless you win NPOY, you more than wear out your welcome with this fan base.

What in the hell are you talking about?? There’s been many players I enjoyed watching play & sad to see leave during Fran’s tenure.

To say that you’re “maybe” sad to see Garza leave is so unbelievably dumb I probably shouldn’t have even replied.

Even taking away Garza’s crazy talent, if you couldn’t enjoy watching him play by his sheer effort alone, you don’t appreciate b-ball.

That guy hustled as hard as he could every freaking minute he was on the court in every single game for 4 years. That alone is as impressive as it is admirable to watch.

I hated seeing Jarryd Cole, Matt Gatens, Devyn Marble, Aaron White, Jarrod Uthoff, Nicholas Baer go. Luka leaving stings worse than maybe any player before him (in or out of the Fran era) save Chris Street because of those circumstances.

Cole and Gatens are good ones. They had the benefit of their time with Fran coming right after Lickliter so fans were happy to see any signs of semi competent basketball.

Hell to the no. I loved watching White, Uthoff, Olaseni, and Marble. There are more players as well.
Good list. Olaseni didn't come to mind immediately but he does after your reminder. Also Nicholas Baer.

For me it's largely the guys who got better every year throughout their career. When you see guys that work hard and are giving their all and always getting better, those are the ones you feel for when the ride comes to a halt.

Just sad so many of those type guys all had it come to an end getting blown out in round 2 of the tournament.

I'm going to play this the opposite way. The number of players I'm happy to see go is very small and mainly oriented towards people that have caused significant off the court issues for us, which we haven't had in a long time.

This. IMHO, unless you are an absolute DICK who cares nothing for the student athletes who put in the effort to play high level D1 sports, all of the Hawks who have come through the program without causing embarrassment to the U get my praise. Those who effed up and did not try to make amends OR they bailed without finishing here do not. To them I say don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Pierre Pierce?

Pierre Pierce?
Sure, I was happy to see him go because of what he did. He should have been gone with his first legal incident. I wish none of the legal stuff had happened, but that was of his own choosing

In recent history, who in Fran's tenure were you happy to see go? Maybe the recruit that had done prison time but never played a minute for us? There maybe have been some players that you were glad to see graduate, but weren't necessarily happy to see go. In many cases we've had guys like Olaseni that needed just one more season to fulfill their potential but ran out of eligibility because they burned a year playing a few useless games as a freshman.

I will miss Garza, JBo, and Wieskamp(if he leaves) from this years team. Three great Hawkeyes on and off the court, and I have very much enjoyed watching all 3 of them over the years.

Others from past years that I have been sad to see go, off the top of my head: Tyler Cook, Marble, Aaron White, Uthoff, Woodbury, Baer, Gesell, Basabe, Bryce Cartwright, Peter Jok...Sure I am missing some

Just like the 2nd string QB is the most popular player in football. Hammer on the guys we have wishing they were better.

This is partly why Baer and Olesani are among the very few Hawkeye players fans were sad to see go. The four year starter types who give the most to the program are the ones most can’t wait to see gone because they don’t live up to the fans expectations.

You’re crazy - I’ve been sad to see 99% of Hawkeye hoopsters move on. Just think what an Aaron White, Anthony Clemons, and/or Gesell could have added to this years team.

Ones for me that I remember being extra sad about(there is typically always one in each class) would be...

Kenny Arnold
BJ, Eddie and Roy
Andre Woolridge
Dean Oliver
Greg, Adam and Jeff
Aaron White
Uthoff
The great Garza

Sapp for his D. Gabe Olaseni cause he's Metumbo lite with the blocks.

Not a Fran recruit but to give respect to Bluder's crew MG and Doyle. MG was the GOAT and Doyle for her passion and refuse to lose style of play especially at the end of the game when she turned on "I got this" mode.
