Assuming Caitlin Clark ends up in the WNBA, will you watch?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I already watch WNBA games

  • I don't watch her as a Hawkeye and I won't watch her as a pro

Results are only viewable after voting.
I doubt I will watch much unless she goes to Minnesota and is just on tv all the time locally. I will check in on her career though.

Someone else said it, but Team USA is her opportunity after college to really shine and establish a legacy. The WNBA has some fans, but most people in the country couldn’t even name 3 teams in the league. However we all know when the Olympics are on tv and many will watch whatever random sport is on.

If she can find a way to make it onto the 2024 roster, that would be huge. It’d be interesting if they would consider adding a top college player to the team like they did with Laettner on the men’s team in 1992 Otherwise if she becomes a leader on the 2028 team, that will be how her post-Iowa reputation is built.

the WNBA will promote her because they need the attention to grow their league popularity. THey need great individual players to put in the spotlight.
Well they are going to have to wait two more years.🤞

Tbf, I don't watch much pro ball period. I haven't seen much of Garza when he played. Never saw Weiskamp, and lol at the Kings being on television here in Iowa.

A lot of it will depend on who she ends up with and if they play/start her, or if the WNBA markets towards her at all. They failed pretty spectacularly when they've had past stars, so that's gotta be the biggest concern.

Won't lie though, if the game is on, I will probably at least casually watch much like I do with the NBA.

I still like to see how former Hawks are doing in pro sports, just like in football.
I'm in Des Moines & have watched probably 65-70 of the Kings 72 games played.

Again, I'm not a big WNBA fan. But it's clearly the best women's league in the world. If you don't like womens basketball fine, but you can't say they aren't good. I think you guys are underestimating the opportunity Clark will have in the WNBA. I just read that Sabrina Ionescu ( former Oregon guard) is rolling out her own signature shoe w/Nike. When Clark is the 1st pick in the draft in the next 1-2 years, she's going to get heavily promoted. I can see her for sure getting her own shoe deal from Nike as well. That kind of contract has to be huge. She's going to make a ton of money in the WNBA.

Highly doubt it. Not a fan of NBA or WNBA. Haven't watched Keagan, Luka or Joe since they went pro. I use to look up to NBA players like Oscar, Wilt, Magic, Jordan, Bird, and Kareem. Pro basketball today is all about me, me, me. Not as much team play. I also think many of the players have become poor role models for our youth. Gave up my suite over 15 years ago and haven't watched a game since, not even the playoffs.

CC will do well, she's a great player and a personality. The WNBA is the best women's league in the world? Well, yeah.. are there others?

"I haven't watched a pro game in many years...but let me tell you how it's played."

Bravo. Always funny when a college fan tries to talk NBA even though they never watch it. So many people on this site do it, and it's great comedy.

I don't really watch any NBA or WNBA, but if she's on one of those Saturday afternoon ABC games, I'll watch. If she plays for Minnesota or Chicago, I might try and catch a game in person

Again, why do some of you comment on things you know nothing about? The top women players have been playing overseas for many many years making high 6 figure salaries and in some cases over a million a year. So yes, there clearly are other leagues.

I have watch more women’s basketball this winter than men’s.

That being said, No.

She will not elevate the WNBA. It’s like the World Cup for men’s soccer. We read every cycle how this will change the game for America. It doesn’t and neither will she.

She should stay in college as long as possible if it’s indeed as lucrative as some reports suggest.

Lol, here I'll clarify for you. I watch enough NBA in passing to know it's not as good as it use to be and therefore not worth any more of a time commitment, and just so it triggers people, that it shouldn't be worth anyone else's time either. ;)

There's a reason why dozens of people seemed to like my comment about Kris Murray in the NBA being a shoot 3s and stand next to a guy on defense while two other guys play 1 on 1..................................Not to say that I don't wish the kid best of luck, as I would for any former Hawk (well....almost any), but I am just sayin.

Hope that helps! :D

Yes because this board is full of old white dudes who have the conclusion "it was better back in my day." That's why.

The two guys playing one on one comment is so laughable. NBA teams runs countless offensive sets. College offenses consist of "Move! Motion!" It's amateur hour, but you guys love it because the lack of ability to get the ball into the bucket = great defense & try-hards in your eyes.

His response was the standard old white guy response. Makes me laugh every time. I never understood why people try to compare the two. I prefer the NBA game over the college game but I appreciate them both for what they are.

This whole "back in my day" shit is so tired. The people that love to say "They used to play defense!" without realizing they were scoring just as many points in the 80s as they are now. But let's be honest.. we all know the real reason why

I like college bball too. But you can snuff out the Iowa fans vs basketball fans. There are plenty of basketball fans on this site (evil monkey included). But there are a shitload of people who will watch Iowa bball, but ZERO bball games of any other teams, yet they think they have an idea on how the game is played.

As far as the back in my day shit, every generation does it yet thinks they're the first to do so. "The young people don't know anything." Oh yeah, Bob, wow you're the first person in history to say that!

We’ll see. Meghan was practically unstoppable in college. When she got drafted into the WNBA, she didn’t make the roster.
And again, I’m not saying that will happen to Clark. I am saying people could be overestimating the impact she will have in the league. She will be facing defenders that are faster, taller, and stronger than anyone she has faced before.
Players like Rhyne Howard? Hmmm how did Clark look against her last time they played? How has Clark done on the USA teams she's played on?? When has Caitlin EVER looked like she couldn't compete on a basketball court? She's played against boys, she played up she levels in AAU, she's always challenged herself against bigger faster stronger competition. Sure she might not be successful, but why on earth would you bet against her??

Probably staying out of Russia right now though...Lol.... ;)

We'll see. All I know is there are a lot of people in the WNBA, NBA and broadcasting that do NOT agree with you, on what her impact will be.

(Tell me you don't watch much college basketball without telling me you don't watch much college basketball........oh wait, you just did. ;)) It's amateur hour, but you guys love it (No, I love CFB and what it use to stand for. I love coaching basketball. I merely like watching college basketball in the hopes that Iowa can at least be competitive day in and day out like any fan of any team would...............and occasionally win a got dam f***ing *throws chair into desk and kicks a garbage bin* National Championship. That's not too much to ask, is it? :D) because the lack of ability to get the ball into the bucket = great defense & try-hards in your eyes. (Lol, yikes..........)

Oh I see you love the unoriginal "tell me without telling me." Try something new that comes from your own creation. (You first.)

Nah, no need to do this more often. (Well that's no fun.... :( ) You're just another guy who doesn't watch the Association (Lol, stay triggered by the fact that the NBA sucks.) , but you think you know what's going on (I do. You honestly do not have to watch night in and night out to see how boring it is). You are a stereotype, congrats. (It's better than not knowing whether or not college teams run offenses besides motion..........lmao.)
Lol it's not my fault you don't like the truth and yet still want to continue replying to people with "I'm right and you're wrong". ;)

You think anybody is going to say otherwise? Cancel culture mob would come a calling.
Are you being serious? Why would Durant or freakin Lebron James gives a rats ass what anyone would think about their comments about some skinny white girls college basketball player? Just FYI the "cancel culture mob" only works the other way.....

The bulk of her money will be with endorsements. There is a salary cap for teams as well as for picks. Picks 1-4 this year were limited to $72k. if She is a top pick (1, 2, or 3) she will be heading to a lousy team.which will make things tough for her.

Clearly. But if Iowa makes the final 4 Or even somehow the championship she is the media darling. I’m not sure some of you understand how big Clark is on a national basis. The WNBA needs a draw. Clark is going to get a ton of endorsements. It’s not like it will dry up because half of the state of Iowa doesn’t watch the WNBA.

When her days playing for the Hawkeyes are done will you watch her WNBA games or does your interest in her end when she departs Iowa City?

I voted Yes but really the best answer for me would be I might watch her Wnba team only once in awhile. I do not watch wnba and I do not care much for nba until maybe the conference and league championship series.

I much rather watch NHL games in April - June

No. Appreciate everything she’s doing for the University of Iowa, but have only watched a total of maybe 50 minutes of her collegiate career. Just like I’ve never watched a full Spencer Lee wrestling match (at least none that lasted longer than 30 seconds). Have also never watched a full Hawkeyes baseball game.

Want them all to do well, don’t get me wrong. But I’m not gonna feign interest just because I went to school there. Being a men’s hoops and football fan is hard enough.

Don't you get it? Watching Iowa women's hoops will soften the blow from men's hoops and football significantly.

Hark back to Ally Disterhoff. She was the all time leading scorer in Iowa womens history before Gustafson. She never even attempted to play pro ball. Got into private equity with Barclays. During an interview she stated the basketball portion of my life is over. Time to use my degree. Whether she would have made it or not was irrelevant. She moved on. Would Clark do so. Who knows.
