There is the fact that his son Jack is scheduled to play for
Butler next season. Fran and his wife will want to watch his
games in person. This will happen when they move to Indiana.
Fran will be 66 years old this May. His coaching days are over
and he will negotiate with Beth for a reasonable departure.

Bottom Line: This is Fran's last season at Iowa.
That's what I said a year ago. I had it in my head that Jack was a senior a year ago so it makes more sense for Fran to leave after this season.

Somebody who would be an objective evaluator of coaches and programs, someone who would make the "tough" decisions, someone who would hold her employees accountable instead of handing out lifetime contracts. You know, what any good/great AD does. In simple terms, the opposite of Gary Barta.
ya that's what we want her to be. I was asking who advertised her that way. The university? herself?

As far as I'm concerned, I strongly believe this is Frans last season. I think the biggest reason I feel this way is not because of wins or losses. It is simply because Iowa Men's Basketball is not getting butts in seats. Wrestling sells out. Women's basketball sells out. Men's basketball does not even come close to selling out.

I know the argument about the B1G Network giving Iowa starting times that are unusual and that has to hurt. But probably not as much as putting teams on the floor that are average at best. It has gotten to the point that I am tired of hoping beyond hope that the guys can find a spark and honestly compete. I have always considered myself a huge Iowa fan. Up to the point I got married and started having kids, I went to at least several games a year. Those I didn't attend I viewed on TV. But now, I find myself barely giving a crap. There is very little in terms of consistency on this team. They can start a game like gangbusters and then look like they would have trouble competing in the Horizon conference five minutes later. It's almost like they are afraid to lose and lock up instead of having the confidence and swagger of a team that refuses to lose until the clock hits :00.

Let's hope that Iowa hires a coach who can bring some excitement back to Carver-Hawkeye and can get those butts back in the seats. Don't get me wrong, I like Fran and have a huge amount of respect for the guy. But I get the sense that he's done fighting his battles in Iowa City and is ready to move on. Best of luck to him if that's what he decides is best for himself and his family.

As a fan I am not privy to all those details. However, from where I stand I believe the collective mass of factors supporting Fran's dismissal are becoming overwhelming. You throw in something like Freeman transferring out and it becomes an avalanche.
OK, I've been a bit out of the loop. I know Freeman is out for the season with an injury, but hadn't heard that he has decided to transfer out. When did this happen?
