I'd argue that he didn't necessarily say that immigration is good nor has he endorsed some sort of open borders policy.
He more or less expressed that immigrants need to be treated humanely. No matter if they came here legally or not.
If you look at immigration's biggest opponents they have a history of dehumanizing immigrants. I mean just recently they had a video of a woman in Hungary kicking refugee children. Also if you remember a few years ago when we had a crisis of children coming here some right wing politicians here got together a group of his right wing supporters and tried to intercept a bus of immigrant children to shout profanities at them and intimidate them.
They accidentally intercepted a YMCA bus full of American citizen children instead but the fact that they where willing to do this at all. . . doubly to children kind of says something.
I didn't vote for that because you misunderstood the message and because I didn't have enough options. I didn't vote for the gay marriage one because while I agree with him on the sin part I disagree with him about the legality part. The pope does not believe it should even be legal. I'm ok with it being legal, that doesn't mean I believe it's a morally acceptable thing to do.

Giving to the poor and believing in capitalism as an economic system are not mutually exclusive
Why do we even care what the pope says? I am Christian, and he means nothing to me, he is just another sinner. He does not represent Christians at all.
Isn't that half of all Christendom? And didn't the other half mostly sprout from its roots? I think you're a little more Catholic than you realize.
Not following your logic. By that logic, I must be jewish, since we both came from Abraham. Or better yet, Muslim. Why can't we all get along, we are all the same.
Lots of truth there my friend. You're all just fighting siblings trying to get the approval of the same daddy. You got the eldest who paid no attention to the security of their position and now is facing being marginalized by the younger two. You got the bratty little sibling who feels they must blow shit up to get attention. And you have the Christians in the middle who have it pretty good but wine all the time.
