I'm not an Elon fan, but my oldest daughter and I see an awkward, autistic man trying to make an innocent (albeit cringey) gesture. His response should have been something like, 'My apologies if my actions were misinterpreted. I assure you they won't happen again.' Of course, that's just my evaluation of this particular moment on its own merits, without judging it through the lens of his associates or previous actions. IMO, there's so much other chaos going on in the WH, focusing on this more than a few minutes is a waste of time--time I've already spent too much of.
I agreed up to here. Musk has a ton of influence in said WH. His actions reflect on Trump and the Administration.
I didn't mean not to focus on him per se' (I'm very focused on tangible actions from his position w/in the DOGE), but him being his usual awkward self, for me is "meh". Others don't have to agree and are free to continue on with the discussion. Just speaking for myself.

I agree with much of this.
The guy does clearly lack some social skills and awareness. Not a ton, but enough to be definitely noticeable.
As far as an apology I'm kind of 50/50 on that. If in your heart you did nothing wrong why should you have to apologize? Otoh, it don't cost nuttin'.
I think he could have some fun with it actually. Maybe next time he could tap his heart, rear back and shoot his arm out and point at the audience instead, index finger extended. Maybe make some comment like "Scared you" or something.

Honestly, how often are autistic people being filmed for public scrutiny (we have no sample size for comparison)? As for the DSM, I don't really agree with that diagnosis being removed, mostly it was done because those with the diagnosis weren't getting the same level of care/attention as others on the spectrum. It was kind of looked at like ADHD--"Oh, your kid's hyper!? Mine is too."
Anyway. Like I said, we don't have to agree on this one.
Of note, I found this interesting and it totally makes sense why Musk would suddenly support Trump--both have very fragile egos and low self esteem:

Look at the video posted earlier in this thread of Hitler doing the salute and Elon doing what he’s doing side by side and if you can point out 3 definitive differences I’ll concede your argument is correct.

The thing that annoys me the most about the autism thing is people are using it as an excuse for him. Is that how we feel about autistic people?
Having met a handful of heirs in my day I have noticed they have the personality of homeschoolers, but with the wealth they become entitled. I know it's a funny diagnosis but affluenza with narcissism. He isn't socially adjusted at all.
For me it's not an excuse, but rather an observation. He 100% isn't socially adjusted at all. Autism or not, he's a very awkward individual. I'd venture to say if he wasn't aligned with Trump, he'd may get more sympathy in that regard.
