POLL: Still Not Genocide?

Which position comes closest to how you feel?

  • Total voters

Not an argument, just a statement of fact,.. If Israel simply wanted to kill Palestinians, they'd all be dead by now.

So just because Israel hasn't killed every single Palestinian person in 14 months means its not a genocide?

Pol Pot killed millions of Cambodians between 1975-1979 was that a genocide or did he take too long?

The Armenian Genocide lasted 5+ years does that not count? I mean the Ottoman empire surely could have killed them all faster than that right?

Ask yourself one more question and you can figure this out:
Was that deliberate policy, or the outcome of a war in which militants hid themselves amongst civilians?

Let me ask you the questions that WWJD won't answer and see if you clam up the same way:

As a percentage of Gazans, this remains below the civilian deaths caused by the West in WW2.
Do you think that was a genocide? That we meant to wipe out the Germans?

At what point should the Allies have offered the Nazis a ceasefire to end the civilian bloodshed?

Was Sherman guilty of genocide in Georgia and South Carolina because he destroyed civilian infrastructure to ensure it could not support the CSA's war effort?

How low do you put the bar for genocide?

Somewhat to my surprise, there are a few genocide deniers/excusers here who weren't already on my ignore list.

I've rectified that.

To my disappointment, half who have voted either deny or support genocide. Considering some cons here routinely don't vote in my polls, the true tally is probably even more damning than that.

I don't know how to rectify that.
Please put me on ignore. I lose IQ point every time I read one of your posts.

Not genocide.

Does Israel strike back with a very low concern for preventing civilian casualties yes.

But that's not the same as genocide.

I still fail to understand why anyone takes sides in this godforsaken conflict. Both sides share a lot of blame in the continuation of violence. Neither side is really entirely "just defending itself"

The powers that run things on both sides want this fight to continue.

Good post.

There's no solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, IMO.

Both groups are entrenched and it will go on forever.

Often times you can repeat the same lie over and over and many people will start to believe it's the truth.

This is a strategy of persuasion.

Politicians, operatives, and the media are very familiar with this and use it regularly.

There are many examples of this just on this board.
Exactly. That's called hasbara. Israel's propaganda machine. Hell, they even have competitions who can spin things the best - sort of like their version of Israel's got talent.

Hasbara (Hebrew: הַסְבָּרָה) has no direct English translation, but roughly means "explaining". It is a communicative strategy that "seeks to explain actions, whether or not they are justified".

So . . . are you saying it's not genocide? Or are you saying it is genocide but genocide is OK?

[You hadn't voted at the time I posted this, so I don't know the answer.]
I didn’t vote. I don’t think genocide is the key word here.
It’s a self inflicted death. Terrorists have found a population who stupidly and consistently support them (with little apparent choice) and who never seems to realize that they will be part and parcel of the cannon fodder that results from an unprovoked slaughter of innocents.
They have to know Israel is capable of taking care of itself and that Israeli leadership under Netanyahu is never going to just wail and roll over.
Like I said the theory of FAFO is at work.

An honest question WWJD, not trying to be snarky, or disrespectful at all.

Why would you put people on your ignore list because of this? Obviously you feel strongly that they are wrong, I get that. But, isn't listening to others perspectives a big part of learning and understanding?
You mean it serves a useful purpose in forcing us to examine our own opinions and adjust or strengthen our opinion?
Nah. That would make too much sense.

Israeli settlers have been taking land in the West Bank for a long time so I think there's blame on both sides thus there's no realistic solution, unfortunately.

In war both sides engage in propaganda, spin. Just as MSNBC, CNN, FoxNews, NYT, WaPO, you name it do here...

If you repeat the "very fine people" quote enough, people believe trump supports white supremecists, it's not different here.

It's not genocide either, that claim is propaganda from a terrorist organization.

I didn't find an answer on the poll that matches my view.

I don't think it's a genocide. It's not like Palestinians are being rounded up en masse and killed simply for being Palestinians.

Hamas uses human shields and that's the main reason there are so many civilian casualties on the Palestinian side, IMO.

And of course, if the Palestinians would stop attacking Israel, this current conflict wouldn't be happening.
And that justifies gun drones targeting and shooting to death little kids?

I think he's trying, unsuccessfully mind you, to shame people for not agreeing with his take on the situation, which he has absolutely made up his mind on and will not hear dissenting opinions about.................just sayin. ;)

Okay.
My Dad always always told my brothers to NEVER start a fight, but always be the one to finish it.

After the unprovoked slaughter of innocents on October 7 the truth of FAFO has never changed.
I hope Israel continues to prevail.
Right on.

I believe the expression is: FAFO.

Exactly what "geno" are they trying to eliminate?

Muslims? There are almost 2 billion of them, so that's not going to happen.

Palestinians? That's not even a legitimate group. No one called themselves a "Palestinian" before the State of Israel was created after WWII. No other Muslim countries recognize them nor will allow them to cross borders, even as refugees from Israel's aggression!

Hamas and Hezbollah? Yes, Israel is trying to eliminate them.

Is eliminating terrorists "genocide"?

Not in my worldview.

How many civilian deaths have been purposeful and how many civilian deaths have been unintended?

Why this is the hill liberals choose to die on is beyond me. Israel is not intentionally killing civilians, but terrorists are intentionally using civilians as human shields. Why is it that in the liberal mind the extremists and terrorists never bear any responsibility for the conflict? Why is it that Israel, surrounded by religious fanatics who want them wiped off the map, is always the one who is expected to play nice? The only possible explanation I see is this is once again the liberal mindset that the side with the most melanin is always the victim.

Again, this is very simple: The day Islamic extremists put down their weapons and call for a truce is the day there will be peace in that region. The day Israel puts down their weapons and calls for a truce is the day Israel ceases to exist.

Liberals, this is Trump-level gaslighting by claiming genocide. That’s right, you are no better than Trump’s fear mongering and “they’re eating the dogs” nonsense. Stop it!

I see some folks are still here to offer reactions, but can’t answer simple questions.

Gaslighting? The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu because they found Israel has been committing war crimes in Gaza.

But yeah it's just us woke libs gaslighting everyone about what's going on in Palestine.

Kewl.

Let me know when the ICC issues a warrant for Assad and then this argument will get a singular ounce of respect.

Do you consider Churchill and FDR war criminals because they blockaded food and fuel shipments to Germany and deliberately targeted electrical generation?

The Chamber considered that there are reasonable grounds to believe that both individuals intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival, including food, water, and medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity, from at least 8 October 2023 to 20 May 2024.

Very strange answer. Are Americans a legitimate group? No one was calling them Americans before 600 years ago. What is the proper amount of time does it take to become a legitimate group in the mind of Tradition?

Yep. War crimes are war crimes no matter who commits them

Yep. War crimes are war crimes no matter who commits them
And that's why I can't take it seriously.

It's war, not a boxing match.

Sherman wasn't committing genocide, he was bringing the war to end as rapidly as possible, by denying his enemy the sustenance to continue it.

You don't understand what war really means.
