Even a large bird might only contain 2,000 calories and have 250 grams of protein. Broken down by 25 meals and you only get 10 grams of protein per person. That's not half the daily protein requirement. No it isn't. There are fifteen servings each containing half a days recommended protein intake.
There are 15 100g servings in a decent sized roaster. Each 100 gram serving contains 20-30 grams of protein, which is roughly half the daily intake for a normal person. Calories can come from other sources such as grains, potatoes or corn which are cheap.Even a large bird might only contain 2,000 calories and have 250 grams of protein. Daily requirement for a full grown man is 6.5 oz per day according to Michelle and her new health guidelines. You are killing your own argurment. Per your math you can get over 40 meals out of that bird.

Keep making excuses.
Water is healthier and cheaper than grape soda. An apple is cheaper than fries. My local produce store sells a bag of apples and a 5 lb bag of potatoes for $2.
The poor in other countries eat healthy and they are even poorer. They eat rice and beans for pennies.
PP: I can't get a great paying job.
Con: You got a degree in Sociology, what'd you expect?
Most people in poverty are probably lazy (or they wouldn't be so impoverished) and cooking in general is probably too much work. It's much easier to down that bag of Doritos and wash it down with a Mountain Dew.Keep making excuses.

You still sticking with the myth of healthy food being more expensive than unhealthy food? You conservatives always use poor or fascist countries as positive examples.

It's just as easy and cheaper to eat a bag of carrots and wash it down with water. Bagged salad is only about 3-4 bucks and a can of chicken or tuna only a couple more. Rice cakes are about the same price as a bag of chips. Most people in poverty are probably lazy (or they wouldn't be so impoverished) and cooking in general is probably too much work. THey are basically just too lazy to eat healthy.
Poor Asians in the USA eat healthy. Water is cheaper than grape soda in the USA.
I was going off this:How me? Citation need for my previous defense of this. I did say this in the thread though "Poor people think that healthy food is at unattainable prices."
I am sure you know poor people. On average I can not say they eat in a nutritious manner. They would have to snap their poverty culture to start eating better.
Poverty food is high in calories and low in nutrition.
healthy foods are not affordable or convenient. They are; now more than ever.
Wow, that's assuming a whole lot of natural ability there. You don't need Food Stamps so you don't starve, you need food. I know a couple places in my town of less than 10k where the unfortunate can go to get food.
The minimum wage doesn't need to be raised. You need to show your employer that you are more valuable than minimum wage or go find somewhere else.
If you want to go to college and have no money, start off at a CC that will transfer to a 4 year, get good grades so you get academic scholarships, and work during college. It might take longer working through college but you won't come out with a mountain of debt. Better yet, go to a CC and study a trade. Some trade programs finish in 10 months, have very high placement rates and will give you a very comfortable lifestyle. Not everyone is cut out for a 4 year degree.
Make sure you are going to school for a useful degree. If you go tens of thousands of dollars into debt and come out with an art degree or a history degree, I don't feel bad for you.
Work to make your situation better instead of waiting for the government to fix it for you. It's not going to happen.
I agree. Breaking cultural behavior is tricky though. Not even Michelle Obama could remedy it.
This might help explain the "why do poor people eat unhealthy food" question:I was going off this:
Fair enough now that you've clarified. I really don't see a valid excuse though. Many of us have grown up eating fatty comfort food and have changed to more healthy eating. You can't really avoid hearing about healthy foods and eating habits. And it is simply untrue to claim that healthy foods are not affordable or convenient. They are; now more than ever.
Michelle Obama is an idiot. She talks about obesity being the problem but then contradicts herself wants more free food for the poor.
Judging by the way your fellow greeters look, I would say you are well fed.1 piece of fried chicken is cheaper than a whole bucket.
I love how the "starving" poor people are all 300 lbs.

Your link has nearly 6,000 pages. Mind narrowing it down a bit, Einstein?
But it tastes so good.Poverty food is high in calories and low in nutrition.
Not really. I know a bunch of guys that work construction. This bunch is dumber than a box of rocks and they would willingly admit it. They enjoy bar hoping and golfing. They know that it takes a certain level of income to do those things. They work just enough over the course of the year to be able to keep up their lifestyle. You better believe that they have the best golf clubs and sweet golf carts but they live in crappy apartments or the basement of their friends mom's house.Wow, that's assuming a whole lot of natural ability there.

You serious? This statement couldn't be more wrong. There are countless traps for people to become poor. Just because you ignore them doesn't make them any less real. Medical bills are a prime example. It's more or less axiomatic that they make bad decisions. That, after all, is why they are poor. Anyone making good decisions and who is willing to work hard won't end up poor in this country.
This is what scares me about Bernie Sanders vision. What's scarier is that based on results in Iowa/NH, 25-30% of Americans apparently don't see it and vote for him anyway.Sorry, the American dream isn't dead, but the American spirit is endangered.
You have obviously not spent time with people in poverty trying to navigate the obstacles of life. It's more or less axiomatic that they make bad decisions. That, after all, is why they are poor. Anyone making good decisions and who is willing to work hard won't end up poor in this country.
Anything can send you into poverty. Look no further than the last recession. Millions lost their jobs and stayed unemployed long enough to become stigmatized. Is it there fault? No. There weren't enough jobs to be had and the timing crushed them when the jobs came back since they were out of the game so long.
It shows a basic lack of understanding how our economy works to think that you can be successful simply by working hard and making good choices. Millions work hard and make good decisions everyday and yet have nothing to show for it.
Plenty did, but many still didn't, which proves my point that some got screwed no matter what they did.Plenty of people recovered from the recession job losses. What did they do that the other ones didn't?
Got lucky? Were the beneficiaries of the right circumstances and context? Showed up at the right time and the right place? Had the right connections? Didn't get sick? Kids didn't get sick? Car didn't break down?Plenty of people recovered from the recession job losses. What did they do that the other ones didn't?
