Give me an opinion. I will share mine (after a few comments). And it won't be popular. Give your best shot. Then I will correct you.

Lack of offense, the defense spotted them 14 but gave up 38.. but Iowa zone blocking wasn’t going to work against Wisconsin 3-4.. passing attack was on wrs, Wisconsin Locked down the tight ends, the wrs didn’t show up enough to do anything, Easley and Vandenburg needed time to get open, in which the o-line couldn’t give the time of day

Their O line was too big+talented for our D line.
Their D line was too quick+talented for our O line.
Their DC was way smarter than our OC.

Or

Maybe Iowa had a terrible day that coincided with Wisky having a fantastic one.

I'm going with the first explanation for now coz that game pissed me off like no other and I need to assign blame.

Interesting Iowa has only 3 yards on 3rd down against Wisconsin in the last two games? Pathetic!!
And based on BF+Polaseks lament that they should've just run on every 3rd down last year, will be interesting to see how this unfolds this time around. We know that they know what we know mind games.

We couldn't run the ball....at all.

Hawks have actually run the ball okay the past few years against the Badgers. The problem has been Iowa can't throw the ball -- at all - against the Badgers. Mostly stemming from not being able to protect the passer. In 2015, Iowa ran for 144 yards (Canzeri 125) in Iowa's 10-6 win. Beathard threw for 77 yards with 3.6 yards per passing attempt. In 2016, Daniels and Wadley combined for 4 yards per carry. Not good, not horrible. Beathard throws for 153, but averages just 4.6 yards per passing attempt.
In 2017, Iowa backs ran 19 times for 64 yards. Not good, but could be worse. The awful part was Stanley throwing 24 times and averaging 1.7 yards per attempt.

Until Iowa figures out to protect the passer against Wisconsin's 3-4, Iowa won't do much on offense.

Wisconsin has had some top tier teams the last couple years. If you go back 10 years they have won the majority of games versus Iowa. But for a few exceptions, those games have always been close. I don't believe they are that far ahead of Iowa as a program. I expect another bare knuckle game this year and see no reason Iowa can't win.

Our linemen in our zone scheme have a really hard time doubling to LBers cause they are so active. And when we can’t run the ball, we pretty much suck.

The simple answer is that Iowa's makeshift O-line couldn't handle Wisconsin's D-line stunting and obfuscation. They were great at masking who was going to rush and it totally confounded Iowa's O-line, which was playing two freshman tackles.

The main difference between the tOSU game and the Wisconsin game? Wisconsin attacked the LOS relentlessly on defense. tOSU tried to play us straight up and the O-line was able to stay on script.

Unless we see more injuries at O-line this year, I expect Iowa will do much better offensively.

Sorry dude, I'm gonna be "that guy" cause every time I read the Subject line...well...

it's "post mortem"...as in, after the end (mortem...mortality...death)

Because they had all 11 guys inside 10 yards from LOS daring us to go deep. They did the same against OSU but they have deep threats and torched them.

Against osu, wi rushed to the tune of 1.9 ypc (for 60 yards total) while osu got 5.7 ypc (238 yards). Osu thoroughly out-wisconsined wisconsin. Amazingly the final score was close.

Wisconsin was well prepared and coached for what Iowa was going to run. Iowa was down too many points too quick to recover.
They need to come to that game with an Alt game plan that they havent practiced for for 20 years straight.
Just like OSU, catch them off balance and keep throwing blind side shots. Stand on the gas and throttle them.
Bastards will give up running plays if they have to cover holes in their D. If you dont expose their weaknesses to make them adjust you lose, that simple.

My understanding of how Iowa plans to attack a 3-4 is what happened at Nebraska. They’re not as good as WIS but the team has a plan for 3-4 now.
