I have to assume most pro disc golfers have a second job?

I mean after you account for travel there isn’t much money in the sport. Unless their sponsors pay everything?

1. Yes, smoking weed.
2. Sponsors are mostly Weed Dispensaries.
3. Isn't there a kid from QCA that is really good?

I've been out of the game for a long time but 15-20 years ago it was still a glorified hobby. My close friend that got me started in the game was a high level amateur (later pro but he was past his peak by then) whose best friend and college roommate was a sponsored tour pro. He was in the top 10 in the world rankings for a while before he got a real job. He's a millionaire for other reasons now.

When I still played occasional tournaments way back when I got to know and play practice rounds with some pretty big name guys since I was in the crew with those two. There was a lot of carpooling and McDonalds dollar menu dining to scrape by just to travel to tournaments. A few guys had real jobs and just did it on the weekends, but most of them were broke and worked part time high schooler jobs to facilitate the laid back pothead lifestyle that allowed them to disc golf 7 days a week. Sponsored guys at the time just got their stuff for free and performance bonuses and paid entries. There was no such thing as straight up endorsements. Its been a while but I think Discraft rented an RV for their top guys to use to travel the circuit with in the mid 2000s.

Tournaments were a lot of fun. Even at the amateur level you made friends you'd see around at other events. There are ALWAYS disc golf tournaments. If you're willing to drive 2-3 hours you're almost guaranteed to be an event every weekend somewhere. And ya, it was a huge party. You usually play a morning and afternoon round each day of the event. The parking lot is like a tailgate of a football game but with way more weed. The mid round break was usually one huge burn circle.

I don't think anyone believes you can live off 30 grand a year...but depending on how long an event is...3 grand for a weekend of frisbee ain't bad extra change.

Discraft and Innova seem to throw around quite a bit of money.

Imagine how much money there is in selling some injection molding plastics for tens of dollars. The profit margin has to be huge.
