Probation officer finds woman hiding in suitcase

A Coralville man was arrested after a probation violation that included a woman hiding inside a suitcase.

According to a notice of probation violation document, a high-risk unit probation officer was conducting a residence check at the home of Ryan Leigh Ransom, 29, of Coralville on Wednesday.

Ransom told the officer that no one else was inside his residence, the document stated. The officer then found a woman "hidden in a suitcase located in a closet." The officer found drug paraphernalia hidden inside of her bra.

A member of the Sixth Judicial District Drug Treatment Court Program had told Ransom previously to have no contact with the woman, the document said.

Ransom was arrested and booked Wednesday at the Johnson County Jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, which is a class D felony.

Ransom had been on probation after being convicted of first offense domestic abuse assault in May 2014, according to online court information.

Ransom was being held at the Muscatine County Jail without bail as of Thursday afternoon.
