Well the Gazette is printed in Des Moines and shipped to CR, so if it didn't happen by 3 pm, you can read about it two days later in the paper or read about it immediately online.

Right? All these other small town newspapers are consolidating and closing. It's nothing to do with their politics and trust in the journalism. It's all about how much it costs to print and get it to them. If people aren't going to open the paper because they're getting news faster elsewhere (website, twitter links, facebook links, reddit, etc.) then the subs will go down, which means advertising leverage goes down.
