The past three days have been pretty awesome to be a Hawkeye wrestling fan and a part of HR. So many regulars have stepped up and donated but is nice to see all the new names come in, donate, and give their two cents. We get dumped on a lot by those in the wrestling community that have an anti-Iowa bias and because we present a big target. Some of it may be deserved but we are showing them that a few anonymous douchebags can really affect change and help our program out.

From the folks that are giving $25 to the ones that have given $200 on up, it is great to see the giving. Life happens and not everybody sh*ts money so even if you can't afford to give anything, look for ways to volunteer your time because I think there will be plenty of opportunities coming up in the future once some of the ideas get implemented. With both money and time, I think we can do big things as a group.

To me, this is just another way to serve. I know some of you have served your country, your state, communities, churches etc. Why not get involved with the team and sport you love? Some of you have already and we are going to need your experience and input. One of the great things about our sport/team is that it is so accessible...especially given the nature of our coach and the staff. We are not giving to spoiled athletes but to hard workers who have made the most of their talent and want to take the next step in the sport. Like I said in another thread...you all are some BAMF's and am proud to be associated with you and cannot wait to meet/have beers with some of you folks that I have been talking with for years now.

Brilliantly stated. Couldn't have come close to saying it nearly as well. Couldn't be prouder to be a Hawkeye. And to all of you who wonder if the coaches and wrestlers know about this stuff on HR -- they most certainly do, and they're extremely impressed. It energizes them to know how much support they have from the fans.

I've said it before, but the Iowa wrestling fan base is one of the program's greatest assets. If/when we harness that massive force, we'll do great things. And as Chief said, we're literally doing it together with the coaches and the athletes. We're like a massive extended family, unlike the real high-profile sports. That's part of what's so fun and cool about wrestling, as you all know. And the Hawkeye Nation is our "ace in the hole". . . . Once the power of this massive, passionate fan base is unleashed on the hurdles that stand in front of us, look out. Momentum is building, and it's awesome to see.

Agree with every post sans widespread! As GG said in another post, we can do a lot besides giving money. This fan base is capable of doing(and is doing) great things. This process of growing and sustaining the wrestling program/hwc is a marathon, not a sprint.

Just a few ideas for the new community groups in IC/CR and DM areas, what about setting up kiosks at the local malls maybe once a month? Hand out fliers and get pledges and email addresses. Or what about a booth at the CR and DM farmers markets. I know we wouldn't be selling a product, but I bet we could get space for a small booth. I just checked the CR farmers market page and they allow non profits "as space allows".

Let's hope some corporate bigwigs get wind of what's been happening here grass roots level and decide to be part of the solution.

Get over yourselves. Nobody hates you guys like OP is stating. Reason- you aren't winning. PSU is the new hate. However, Iowa does have individuals which people hate, such as Gilman and Brands. I think there is more disgrunt within Iowa nation than external. Three of your guys are now coaching for Iowa State. Something to think...errr, chew about.

go read a map..........

I'm damn proud to be a hawk fan and HR poster. Obviously I haven't been following for nearly as long as many on here, but in the past 6-7 years I can't remember a time where there has been this much excitement around the program. Everybody is tired of playing 2nd fiddle and there is a large effort underway, both at the grass roots level, and administrative level to ensure massive progress is being made.

On top of that, the recruiting momentum we have from the past few classes is still in full swing and hopefully this 2018 class will be something special. This renewed effort could not have come at a better time. It's awesome to see everybody trying to be part of the positive change.

Really, its hard to put into words how awesome these past few days have been. A huge thanks is in order to Randy from the HWC. It means a ton that he came on here and explained a lot of different things about the coaching staff, administration, the HWC, that were relatively unknown to the common fan.

It's just so refreshing to see that for the first time in a while (seemingly) there multiple factors that are all lining up at the correct time.
-Active Grassroots fan base
-HWC Making structural improvements to better cater to fans who want to donate
-Coaching Staff, HWC, Fan base all being on the same page going forward
-Much more transparency than in the past
-Huge recruiting up-tick and momentum

Note: Not that there haven't been tremendous efforts by the HWC, coaching staff, fans in the past, but it just seems different to me this time around, better. Not meant as a slight to the work done in the past at all, just very excited about the present and future is all!

There is definitely an aura of excitement. The icing in the cake would be for a sick 2018 recruiting class, coupled with successful talks/negotiations between TnT + HWC to the Foundation/Administration/IClub to have a renewed collective effort in making Iowa #1 again. New facilities and a fully funded HWC (to the same level as tOSU/PSU etc..) would be an absolute game changer, no doubt about it.

Also great to see the collective effort from some of the greatest minds on this boards. Just awesome, it truly is. Cesspool Pride.

Brilliant, Lax. Absolutely brilliant! A perfect summary of what's happening with Iowa wrestling.

And if I'm a top recruit. . . . I want to be part of that!

I'll donate $5.00 for every poster that puts this guy on ignore.

Btw, I'm not sure which poster you are talking about. Also, I've never used ignore. So I just put everyone in this thread on "ignore," to make sure I got the bad apple. Hope that at least counts for the $5 and I plan to contribute more in a bit.

What has happened here is truly awesome. Pinters says, "Match me", and Kaboom! Then lots more Kabooms! There are so many good fans, and good people, on this board.

Your point about giving to well-deserved athletes is spot-on. A sentiment I could not agree with more. As an example: Back in January I met some friends at a local bar in Pittsburgh. I had the bartender turn on BTN for Iowa versus Penn State. During the Sorensen / Retherford OT match I was up out of my seat and back in it multiple times, grabbing the table, grabbing my buddy, you know, the typical gyrations of a wrestling fan during a big match. A lady nearby said to me as she was passing by, "You're really into this". I said, "yeah, I think it's pretty cool". She said, "What's so interesting about it?" I said, "Well, if you had any idea the amount of work these young men put into this, for no financial reward, and knew how most of them are extremely humble, fine young men"....etc etc.... I went into all the reasons why wrestling is the greatest sport. She said, "Kind of the opposite of some of our Steelers". I said, "I have a lot more in common with these young men, minus the skill and talent, then I will ever have with most professional athletes these days". She laughed and said, "I know what you mean".

Very cool story and I agree wholeheartedly. I played football, baseball, was pretty good on a basketball court, but really nothing compares to the time and effort I spent on the wrestling mat just to be a decent wrestler. Knowing that time and effort is maybe why I connect with this sport and those that do it (or have done it) because I know what took them to that level. It wasn't a perfect swing, a God given fastball or a 4.4 40...it was just hard freaking work and dedication. Remember when Deion Sanders played both football and baseball. He would play baseball and show up on Sunday to do his thing. If Deion tried that in wrestling, he would get the sh*t kicked out of him. Anyways, loved the story...I often drone on about wrestling to those that don't know as well.

I'm overmisunderestimating, but I'd say we got at least 35 ignores, so here's .175 K and I got a crew on the way to Iowa City to remove a half dozen parking meters. Keep your money away from Barta.

I must already have him on ignore because people keep saying things that don't make sense, so I must be missing the bad ones. If you'll donate an extra five, I'll put him on double-secret-ignore.
