Open letter/suggestions for Tom

Yes, I was mainly referring to areas outside of sports, but, there definitely is a certain level of finesse and technique in floor and beam exercises that women are much better at than men in gymnastics. Ice skating is another that comes to mind. When it comes to finesse and visible technique, in sports where you are actually judged by it, the women do excel at it even better than men. Hell, when it comes to golf, I would say many women have much better "fundamentals". Part of that is because men are now prone to "overpower" a golf course, but if you watch many women's swings on tour, there are many that are more fundamentally sound than the men. They just simply lack the power the men generate.

However, yes, your overall point stands. Men and women are physically different in such a way that men are much more designed for power and speed, which are both almost always 2 of the most important things in sports. As a result, the gap is normally quite wide when comparing the 2 ...
I’m going to link you a few YouTube videos showing Olympic female gymnasts reacting to men doing their events . The better men did them easily while the women can’t do the make events near as well.

It’s mainly power output, the guys generate so much more while the women will incorporate more grace and dance like moves.

When it comes down to separating men a slick and graceful dance move won’t cut it while ban explosive move is going to impress the judges.

But overall yeah.

That "girl" also happens to be one of the best wrestlers on the entire planet. Most men don't even know how to change a flat tire or start a mower and you expect them to put up much of a fight?

Blades would put your dick in the dirt inside 60 seconds.
I have no doubt MSU would whip her ass. This argument is like the one were a percentage of dolts think Caitlin Clark would beat Jordan Bohannon or Cooper DeJean in 1 on 1 basketball. She'd be lucky to score a point.

not the same at all.... Blades would beat the shit out of a novice Cesspool poster... Way different that Clark going against a D1 male athlete.

You realize he wrestled in College don't you? At least I trust his word more than you know who? And we should also clarify are we talking fight or wrestling match? Either way I would guess there are a lot of guys on here who outweigh her by 50-100 lbs. She isn't whipping them if they are under 50 and kept in any sort of shape. Maybe we can send our resident brawler Weh8tstate to Carver for an exhibition or cesspool case study.

The women have separate saunas, ice baths and whirlpools. The only things shared are mats and weights. I would think with all the mats they have a couple of guys could get a workout in when the women are practicing, and I doubt they're using the same dumbells. I could be wrong. I understand the fundraising thing though, and I gather from this thread some big donors aren't happy with it. I wish now I had asked Doug G about it the last time I saw him. I'll never know his opinion on it now. RIP, Doug.
Same weights.

To me the argument isn't men vs. women as that is physiologically unfair. But I enjoy women's wrestling because many of them are very accomplished in what they can do. They are generally less defensive-minded and let it all hang out scoring more than most D1 men, and I prefer a high-scoring match to a 2-1 snoozefest, even if it was beautifully executed by two very accomplished wrestlers. My son had a girl on his team that was in his weight class, and he could pin her at will because he overpowered her, but she had a couple moves she did much better than him. I will support the Iowa women's team as much as I can. I'm sorry to hear there is animosity over use of the new facility and I hope that's all there is to it.

Gobblin, I agree with many of your comments on here and I would guess with our respective ties to the program that we have met several times. However, I respectfully disagree that the women's program in any way is an impediment to the men. Maybe you can explain how. To be transparent, I made a fairly significant donation to the building fund in part because the women were getting equal access to the facilities. I had not heard that others made commitments under different conditions. Would honestly like to hear more. I don't really understand the issue, both teams have access to "the best training facility in the world". Why does it have to be an issue between the men and women?
With all due respect I don’t want to speak on it any further publicly, but I, and likely several others, would be happy to discuss things personally with you anytime. Go Hawks!
Then you shouldn't have said anything at all. The only thing you've done now is publicly insinuate there is tension between the two programs over resource sharing.

It comes off as childish possessiveness. "No, that's MY toy." I sincerely hope the people actually in the program don't care about this and it's just bored old men looking for drama.

This is why it's not worth sharing information in any way shape or form. Barta mislead people in the early stages (Bob confirmed as much). The men's team is not able to get extra work in at the facility while the women are using it. It's not the end of the world, but it's certainly not the optimal situation. Other top teams do not have to contend with this. He doesn't need to provide you nuance, because it's really none of your business. You know more than you knew two days ago, and you shoot the messenger. Annoying

And you consistently come off as an antagonistic, sniveling prick but you don’t see me following you around crying about it…

Some people on here have proven to know things. Annoying people like you can choose to believe them, or not. I doubt they GAF, and they said they aren't going into details. Posting more isn't earning you further explanation. And just because your simple mind can't think of other scenarios that could be an issue doesn't mean you deserve anything more. Fighting over toys. What a simp you are.

Lol some of you are pretty sure of yourselves. I would guess the match would look something like this (with MSU in blue):

Then you are a complete and utter moron. This is in no way a slight to women or Ms. Blades. But, trying to say a woman is going to beat up most men is simply beyond stupid. Especially someone well trained in it who still focuses heavily in maintaining that ability.

Again, this isn’t personal, nor some type of brag. I already said there is no way I can personally look good in this scenario. But, that isn’t the point. This isn’t about me. It is about the level of stupidity necessary to favor a woman in a fight with a man in the first damn place…

Not just any woman, one of the top female athletes in the world. Not beat up in a fist fight, defeat in a wrestling match. Do you truly believe you would just walk through the women's Olympic bracket without any challenge to a gold medal at your age?

Please do me a favor and reread this thread with special emphasis on the posts I directly responded to and what my responses were.

My argument was never really about a wrestling match and I even said I would hope she would wear me out over time, but if am allowed and even supposed to go at it 110%, that first minute or 2 would be very unpleasant for her if she let me get my hands on her. Mind you I walk around at 190 with a pretty solid focus on physical fitness.

As an aside, how do you think she would do in an upper end high school room? Do you really think she would be running through state placers her size let alone giving up a decent amount of weight?

I get what you're after here, and I love women's wrestling too, but you're not going to convince these guys that Oranges beat Apples (see what I did there?).

I can honestly say that when I was 50, I think I could have beat any woman in the world, probably in any weight class in a wrestling match. And I was a smaller guy and less experienced than MSU. Women have come a long way since then, and since I hit 60 things have gone downhill fast. I'm sure Kylie Welker would whip up on me, but it would be fun to try.

Let's let this die, and everyone agree to disagree. I love my Hawkeye wrestling, whether Men's or Women's.

Lol no, I'm not rereading this steaming pile of horseshit. Carry on with your strange little thought experiment about fist fighting women though.

Are you really this dense? I wasn't the one that proposed fist fighting with women. I was making a point that it was beyond stupid to say it and anyone that actually believes it is possible needs to be put in check before they actually make someone else believe it.

The true point behind everything I am saying is that I DO NOT want men fighting women, PERIOD. Part of that requires immediately knocking down the stupidity that proposes it to begin with...

Lol, there is a distinct difference in what you are willing to accept as a fan vs. a competitor. Still, in both, you need to at least partially be grounded in reality.

I know you get fired up when I try to point out that Iowa is still pretty damn good in wrestling and are the type of fan that follows the "If you arent first, you are last!" mantra. I even respect your passion, even if I disagree with your premise....

With that said, you definitely struck a chord with the 2nd place comment. I had a stretch from High School on up where I took 2nd A LOT. It started to get VERY annoying and many jokes were made at my expense...

You derailed the entire thread to make the point that men shouldn't beat up women? Wild take, and a straw man no one was advocating for. If I'm dense, you're a 190-pound mass of osmium who can't stop arguing irrelevant minutiae with strangers on the Internet. That's all from me, go ahead with the last word that you must have every single time.

I'll be honest my life has changed immensely the last 9 months so I don't get as worked up as I once did. I am starting to share more of your "we are not as far off" overlook. Still think we could make some changes to make things more exciting but I am dont get to much into the "burn it all down" mindset to much anymore. Mostly just like ribbing people a little.

I swear many on here have reading comprehension skills below 2nd grade level.

I swear many on here have reading comprehension skills below 2nd grade level.

I admit, I egg it on from certain posters, so I often expect it. They see red when it comes to me and want me to be wrong so badly, they can twist just about anything. However, here, there is nothing to twist. A couple of comments were made that were so stupid that, as a father of a 10 year old daughter, I wasn't going to let them propagate for even a second.

Now that doesnt mean I don't think women should know how. I have even had her in some very entry level mma training for the past 2 years, with an emphasis mainly on defense, counters and a little bit of boxing. Still, the point is clear, it is only to protect yourself and to find a way to disengage as quickly as possible, especially if the altercation is with a boy. She knows damn well a fight with a boy that knows what he is doing wouldn't go well....

As a much more uplifting aside, the most surprising part of it all is her shin/calf kicks. She actually makes the bag POP pretty regularly and it's entertaining to re-watch the videos seeing that sound come from someone so little!

Remove women and this is a good answer. Matter of fact drop the women’s program total waste of time, money and resources spent on something no one cares about.
Not happening. Even if they did, that money wouldn't go to men's wrestling. It would probably get absorbed by football or basketball.
I support all wrestling at Iowa.

Yes, it wouldn't be close. Serena Williams lost to a male tennis player in 3 straight sets who was not a professional and was considered average by most tennis players. The U14 boys soccer team beat the US women's team 12-1 or something like that the year of or after the women's won the world cup and or Olympics. I'm guessing a Iowa 1A state placer could beat most female Olympians at the same weight.

Hey Tom,
Maybe consider moving Morningstar to Lead recruiter and bring in Dake or KemDawg for those middle to upper weight guys to wrestle with. Please consider hiring Mocco Sr. for the HWC as the upper weight coach and leave DD incharge of the light weights....also have Mocco bring his son to wrestle heavyweight for us . Tom for one last favor could you possibly recruit only the TOP P4P guys and Olympic medalists ...so we can call you the greatest coach of all time ?
Dake probably wouldn't take anything less than an Assoc Head Coach position, unless of course the pay was extreme

Whoa big boy, I don't fight women, ever,,,,, She wrestles at 76kg or 167. She is a big athletic woman who is world class so she would absolutely be a handful for most men on this planet. College wrestlers, ju jitsu guys and MMA guys excluded.
