beyond the obvious issues kicking the ball, I haven’t seen too much discussion on our return game.
It is the job of the special teams coach to make sure the return man knows how far to set up from the los. It was almost like they had no clue Purdue was kicking into a strong wind.
Also a d1 college punter should be able to consistently turn a punt over into the wind. A spiraled punt will travel into the wind pretty well.
A high school level punting game coupled with and pinning down an offense that defenses have figured out is a recipe for offensive futility.
Defenses have taken away our slow developing outside zone with an aggressive backside pursuit that also takes care of boot action. If you can defend both with one guy you are going to struggle.
We don’t run any draws or screens that take advantage of a defense that is pinning their ears back. Our best running plays have been straight ahead quicker hitting plays.
There are so many simple solutions to a struggling offense that haven’t been tried. I’m not ready to throw Brian out but if he can’t see these things he is not ready to be an oc.
