*****Iowa vs Penn St Game Thread*****

So frustrating to watch, but so glad they somehow realized they were getting beat by one girl in the 4th quarter (again) and put a stop to it. That said, Elliot is a good player, and maybe a good warmup before playing Maryland/Sellers.

*Near the end of 3 quarters, the trio of Olsen, Affolter, and Feuerbach was shooting..... 2-15.

*And safe to say that Taylor McCabe kept Iowa from getting behind, and pretty much was the only player that could hit a shot outside 10 feet. She has her skill set and it won the game for Iowa. Without her hitting 3s, Iowa would have been shut down.

*Stremlow played more like a freshman today, but so did the entire team. Quick road trip on a holiday, so maybe something to that, but good grief, Iowa really didn't play well. (Somehow "almost" won by the Vegas line anyway? I don't know how those oddsmakers do it.)

*Heiden and O'Grady had a good game on defense. For the most part, they shut down their post play. Nobody from PSU getting to the line.

*Iowa scored quick buckets against their press. Twice! Just glad to see them do it instead of being happy to get it over the line.

*Lucy. Dammit. Showed up in the 4th. Not sure why not until then. Her 3 (what she had) is broken.

* Those BTN+ announcers? Seriously, wtf? I guess we were spoiled with Clark, almost always on the professional broadcasts. Idk, that was really rough. Made the whole thing even more frustrating.

12-2
worst announcers I have ever heard by far....
That was just awful

The good thing about this team is we have 10 players honestly who are all of pretty equal ability, though we probably need Lucy and Hannah at almost all times. So if Feurbach is off we can bring in McCabe. Or Affolter either of the 2 Frosh not Heiden. O Grady struggles we can bring Heiden in. Need a jumper bring in Guyton. You know however at the end of a game Zhannah is probably going to be guarding their best big at whatever position and Lucy running the point. The rest is up for grabs at this point and probably will be all year.

Feurbach is almost always off on the offensive end. Shooting 32% overall and 27% from 3. Teams do not need to help off of her, so it is basically playing 5 on 4. She would have to make at least two or three shots for me to have the defender be there on the catch to guard her. I wish she could be combined with McCabe to make one player.

Meh….i don’t know, they still guard her🤷‍♂️

This team is so aggravating I can hardly stand to watch at times. Jensen needs to make people sit and think who constantly make bad passes. Part of it is her fault too because forcing passes to the post or within the lane continues to be an issue. Stuelke missing bunnies still. Nothing from Feurbach and little from Affolter. Lucy's unorthodox shot not a good stroke for 3s, I think she is a bit too scrawny and short on athleticism and range to make the W. McCabe definitely a big difference maker today. The freshman still freshmaning but starting to make a few plays. I would like to see McCabe or Guyton on at all times to have at least 1 capable shooter out there.

How is she going to make people sit… There isn’t one girl on the team that doesn’t make stupid ass passes.

And as far as Stuelke goes, she’s our best player in my opinion. These women all miss lots of bunnies.

The half-court offense confuses me because almost every player hesitates when they get the ball even when they are wide open. I am not sure what that is all about?

Stulke really needs to get a 15ft shot because they sag off her when she is on the perimeter and slows down ball movement.

Good win, but they cannot play like this against a decent team IMO.
Addie has a good jumper- wish she would just turn and jump shot. Not much blocking threat in the woman’s game

Lucy has a good shot— but is really not strong enough to shoot from three so she rarely makes those

Idk what it is. They just want layups. Get the ball to 5ft out and they will always pass hoping for the 3ft shot. I get the concept there, and it's an ideal, but geesh, you would hope someone just wants the ball and the bucket.

Totally agree, Addie does not make ANY post moves. I like Hannah at the 4, but I’m beginning to agree with @littlez we are going to have to put her back to the basket at times. If for no other reason, than to pick up fouls on the interior.

The only person this year that has gained confidence offensively is Taylor McCabe. Her ability to help defensively and with a few rebounds has make her feel like she's a complete player. My vote for a step up player in March.

Yeah that’s gonna get fugly. We got nobody that can remotely stay in front of her.

Not many teams do but…..

Meh….Kylie can, may even use HS, or even Mallageni. With that said, you’re not going to stop her, but we can play with them, but that assumes we quit throwing the ball away every fourth trip down the floor.🤷‍♂️

Does anyone else feel like McCabe might be travelling on those spot-up threes? It looks like she takes a little hop each time before shooting.

Women often do, so does Afolter. Yet again a reason why CC is so polarizing. She shoots with ease and perfect form from 35 Ft in

Yep, I said that before. In NO way is that going to help get her more PT, and frankly she's played alot more the last couple of games.
Yep, never should have posted that on Twitter. Whether he took it down or not people have all seen it and know about it now. He's doing a disservice to his daughter. She's coming off a knee injury where she's been out for a year and she's playing behind Olson. Her time will come.

Imagine what Bobby Knight would've done had AJ's dad tweeted about his son's playing time.
As I said before, I had two sons who played in college, and I've never met a coach worth a damn in high school or college, who gave a flying flip what a players Dad thought. You can't manage a team that way. As a former player Dad should know that its not in her best interest to keep posting....

McCabe just seems to know where rebounds are going. Not super athletic but good rebounder for her size.

I’m super happy for Taylor & even more importantly the team she is growing & improving her over all game. We need it, and if I hadn’t been doing a back look. To see if a poster I don’t remember @vamchawk was one of those types that were routinely complaining about our coaches, who they play and how they coach. I would’ve never seen it.

With that said, you have notoriously been exactly that kind of fan and have routinely complained that McCabe didn’t play more… So I looked at her rebounds per Minutes and although she has upped her game, she’s just more of the same as everyone else around her. She is now playing more because she is improved those other aspects of her game.

That is reality

Just now got to watch the game. I have not read this thread. Two things, Taylor needs to start or giving a chance to start and see how she handles it. So I think some of us know who should sit.

The Center for PS is probably the biggest girls basketball player in college at 6’6” 250 pounds. Who else has that height and that much weight? Pretty good player too for that big.

Why do “we” need to know anything ?is that serious? The coaches don’t get to be responsible for that? What a weird world we live in.

After averaging about 25 minutes for first 12 games, the last three Feuerbach's minutes have been cut to 19, 17, and only 10 minutes against PSU. McCabe has averaged 27 minutes the last three. Who starts is not that important - McCabe is, in effect, the starter.
