Purdue Has a Starting Quarterback!

We just don’t know who yet.

We now know that a decision has been made and Purdue has a starting quarterback for Saturday against Iowa. There is white smoke from the football practice facility, but do not expect Jeff Brohm to come out on the balcony and reveal the starter. First of all, he is sick and in quarantine. Second, it was announced that the starter will not be revealed until Saturday:

Will it be Saturday morning or will it be around 3:30pm when the first huddle breaks and the offense steps on the field? I am guess the latter. As we know, it has been a three-man race. Jack Plummer is the seeming incumbent who lost the job due to injury. Former walk-on Aidan O’Connell did a great job of even distribution of the offense each according to their needs in three starts to finish last season (as well as the game-winning drive vs. Nebraska in the final minutes. Graduate transfer Austin Burton is also in the mix.

My completely uninformed opinion is that it is Plummer. He had some rough spots last season, but overall did fairly well for a redshirt freshman getting thrown to the wolves after Elijah Sindelar went down. My second choice would be O’Connell because he finished last year so strong, and I wouldn’t be disappointed if it is him. Burton is still such a mystery, but he has reportedly done well in practices here.

We might even see two of them:

There is precedent there, as Sindelar and David Blough split time in 2017.

This is more to keep their QB"S guessing and using up their eligibility than trying to fool Iowa. Iowa will play their game the same way no matter the QB???

This is a free year. They aren't using any eligibility.

Yeah one kid who hasn't played at all is starting at G. but LT was starter and others on the line all have starts.

The one site seemed to indicate their LG is a freshman.
Yes. The projected OL is LT Herman's senior. Good player. LG freshman Cam Craig or junior DJ Washington. Washington was starting last year before bearing his leg. Cam played 72 snaps at LG vs iu, where Purdue had the best rushing day of the year. Center is likely to be junior Garvin, who started the back half of the year. Could also be Bramel who started RT as a freshman or 4 star freshman Gus Hartwig, but I'm guessing he won't start game 1. RG is probably Washington or junior Stockport. RT will be grad transfers Long, sophomore Bramel, or Sophomore Eric Miller. Miller and Bramel play RT last year in more of a rotation.

The oline isn't expected to be good, but its expected to be good enough/better than it was at the end of last year, which was good enough to protect the QB and break off a couple runs here and there.

QB is likely Plummer, with Burton playing a couple series as more of a dual threat. Just my guess.

Hopefully Nixon can collapse the pocket in the middle.
