Purge of J.A.G. officers

That may be, but again, trump is not going to be looking to jag for that sort of direction on those sorts of issues, he's going to be looking to doj, and specifically probably to olc.

A side note - when this thread started, i hadn't seen the reports of the senior officials specified, and assume this was more of the same broad based stuff. As noted, i think the broad based stuff is bad, because jag does a lot of stuff that supports line soldiers in a lot of mundane but important ways. As to the senior types, i don't like it either (for the reasons you note), but i also simply don't think these are the types of people from whom he'll get the advice on the types of questions that have been underlying some of the hypotheticals here. That's olc, who have been, and always will be, much more political.

For example, the abu graib memos were jay bybee at olc.
Sure. To paraphrase the late, great Denny Green, Trump is who we think he is. I don't know if you are truly naive, approve of these actions, or are just avoiding reality at this point. Trump is doing this for a reason. He, or the powers behind him, want this for a reason. It might be specific to the military, or it might also have broader applications if they succeed here.
You at times seem very confident there are guardrails in place to preserve the rule of law, and to preserve our shared democratic norms and ideals. Trump is taking down the guardrails.

Honestly, it is more that I am just as inclined to believe left wing histrionics about fascist takeovers as I am to believe right wing histrionics about communist takeovers. Which is to say not inclined.

Why don't you just believe what Trump is doing in front of your own eyes, and why don't you believe what he is telling us he intends to do? Did you think it was histrionics when some of us waned that Trump was talking about pardoning the 1/6 coup members? Trump said he was going to do it, and he did it.
I think more and more about Michael Cohen, and how he talked about Trump corrupting people little by little. Seeing how far they'd go for him. He's doing it in real time in front of your eyes, and he isn't being secretive. I just find it weird you cannot be inclined to believe what Trump is telling us, when his track record is doing what he says he says.
