Putin’s investment is paying off

He will let Ukraine fall and then Putin will attempt to take Poland. WW3 begins and it will be over for all of us.
What’s the logic behind thinking Putin wants to attack Poland (member of NATO and the EU) after the complete and utter shit show that has been the Russian invasion of Ukraine?

I just don’t get watching the Russians get mauled, and be so ineffectual, and think to yourself, ‘their encore is going to be taking on NATO’.

He’d be counting on a Trump-led US abandoning NATO altogether

Are you serious?

He wants as much of the land and people he can get. Most of Russia is unable to grow food. If he can get Ukraine and then Poland he can feed everyone. It's that simple. AND he can grow mother Russia's power over a region. His army is being supported by China, N Korea and Iran. What do you do think he wants?

My guess the final settlement includes something along these lines:

FT
But a Russian source briefed on the talks said the proposed settlement, if agreed, could give both sides a credible way to declare victory in the war.“Every side needs a win,” the person said. “He needs to be able to sell it to the people. Putin can say that we wanted to stop Ukraine joining Nato and putting foreign bases and missiles in its territory. If they do that, he can say, ‘I got it.’”

The EU and NATO would instantly become less stable and give rise to far right nationalist leaders that would seek to dismantle those institutions.
And then what?
The countries that won't fund militaries now will suddenly want to fund them and fight each other?
Have you been to Europe?

We’ve seen the movie before when the US doesn’t lead the world.
What movie have you been watching for the last three decades?
Share any favorite scenes?

WW2

Lots of Americans don’t want the US to be the world police and there’s plenty of good discussion topics about use of aid funds but the fact is if America abandons allies, the world becomes less stable and will eventually cost American lives in future wars.

Can someone in this thread explain why the EU, with its larger population and economy, has to be a ward of the United States?

Why is nuclear armed, larger, richer Europe forced to rely on the U.S. for defense from a nation that 1/3rd their size in population, with an economy not even 1/10th the size of theirs?

Why is that entity in desperate need of our help?

If they can’t take care of themselves (a larger, richer country than ours!), who can?

What’s the argument for letting them keep their welfare states, while we subsidize their defense, when they have a larger economy than we do?

Man, what rock do you under? These boards provide freedom of expression and autonomy, but you should consider posters do evaluate your messages.

This was truly dumb. Unintelligent. NATO is a treaty ensuring security for Europe against former USSR aggression. It works for our security and financial and geopolitical interests as well as Europe's. It's not a country club.

Russia (once USSR) is and will be continue to be aggressive as they are now in Crimea and Ukraine. Territory lost will be lost. Putin is counting on U.S. passiveness.

I further suggest you educate yourself in international politics and even history. You're obviously echoing right-wing talking points.

He fvcking voted for Trump, how smart do you think think this dude is?

Trump is right. It's bankrupting our country trying to be policeman of the world. As far as Nato is concerned, it's members had to be threatened so they would meet the minimum military spending required by its charter when Trump was POTUS.
Nato countries have been playing US taxpayers for suckers for decades. The only exception was the four years Trump was POTUS. The USA spends trillions on its war budget so Europe can spend their taxes on general welfare.

I think if every NATO member's military investment exceeded what Trump asked of them, it would not change our military spending in the slightest. The USA mostly spends trillions on its war budget for the benefit of wealthy domestic contractors and the defense of the economic interests of big time capitalists (American and foreign). Probably way more than we'd need to if we were just trying to defend the homeland and join international coalitions to intervene to stop genocides or aid in humanitarian crises. We don't spend trillions so NATO Europeans can have better social democracy than we do. It's so we can remain the most powerful military and try to preserve the overseas empire (military and economic) we put together from the Spanish-American war through all the proxy wars and covert operations during the Cold War.

If we want better social democracy here like they have in parts of Europe, don't disagree we would need to cut a lot of military spending. But it's not our NATO allies preventing that. Convenient scapegoat for staying the course here.

They don’t love isolationism, they love Trump.

There has been a lot of talk in the GOP nomination process about military action in Mexico with US boots/drones trying to solve the cartel problem. Like it's a one way border and Mexican government would be fine with American troops going town to town on search and destroy or just bombing suspected cartel controlled areas just because of American overdose deaths. Pretty interventionist and not to mention insane

Putin owns Trump and obviously Tucker and now Elon. If you don’t believe or understand that, I can’t help you anymore. Russia has owned Trump since the late 80s and it’s been out there for public consumption.
How does Putin own the richest man in the world, a man who built a business from scratch that took 2/3rds of Russia’s satellite launch customers?
In your head, how does that work?

Even Elon has said that Putin is SIGNIFICANTLY richer than him
Musk’s current wealth is measured at 200 billion, which is in line with the claim about Putin made by Bill Browder in 2017.

But how would Putin transfer whatever wealth he claims in Russia to Musk anyhow?

When SpaceX and Starlink go public Musk’s wealth will skyrocket even more.

All of that would be risked by taking anything from Putin. It just doesn’t make any sense.

Putin is like a gang leader. Takes the disenfranchised and builds them up. Trump wasn’t hugged enough, always trying to please daddy. Elon comes from one messed up family and he’s messed up in the head, too. Putin tells them what they want to hear, he lured them in and over time, he controls them. He now has Tucker, shunned by media outlets, I’m sure Putin tells him he’s the voice of reason and builds him up.

Where is the media here? Every single Republican member of Congress should asked, asked again after they deflect, ad nauseum until each has responded to whether he/she agrees or disagrees with Trump's statement from Saturday. Let the voters know what you believe and what they're voting for.

JFC. No wonder the Stupid TV media people are falling in love with the Ruskies. Idiots loving fools are easy prey. Hungary, now Moscow. Throw in some Marxism and Communism, then become shocked that Communism is...., oh, well....

It's better for nitwits to not be educated for their purposes.

And illegal of course without the Mexican government's permission. That would be invading a sovereign country otherwise.

The military knows this. No one in the GOP has the intelligence to open a freaking book.
