Qualifiers are out, Gunther got at large, Wilcke did not

Berkowitz from Northwestern surprises me a bit. Doesn't have a win over a quality guy that stands out, didn't place at Big 10s and loss to Stiggow who Wilcke beat twice.

Wilke at 17-11 out, Cody Burcher Ohio St. 16-16 in. Is that Tom Ryan on the committee the same guy that coaches fOSU?

Eric Barone Illinois 10-11 and Salvator Profaci Michigan 13-15 in. Congrats!

I doubt it, since his son didn't get an at-large.

Tough for Wilcke, but when you go 2-3 at B1Gs, that's what you get. Hopefully he learned a lot this year and makes an impact at 184 next year.
Thought Wilcke might get the nod over Berkowitz since he got a first round bye and then went 0-2 at Big 10s.

Good point, but Berkowitz does have 22 wins, think he was in(and out) rankings this year too. Someone from NW must be on the board... 3 at larges
At-Large Mitch Sliga Northwestern 17-11
At-Large Jacob Berkowitz Northwestern 22-9
At-Large Conan Jennings Northwestern 17-14

I'm fine with Wilcke not getting a spot. Didn't do enough throughout the season
Yeah, because we wouldn't want a 9th guy qualified that might sneak us a couple team points at NCAAs. I'm assuming you'll be "fine" with it if we are a team point short of moving up a place next weekend also.

Clark is going to be the interesting seed. In 2014-15 Cody Brewer got the #13 seed due to injury. He was 13-1 in the dual season!! I'll bet all my wife's money that Clark with NOT be on the tomatoe's side - unless it happens when Ryan's in the restroom.

83% chance you may be correct.

Of course there is a 50% chance I am wrong.

My wife has a different % on me being wrong.

Could we use some of your wife's money to change her perception of me?

When brewer won nationals it was the first year they stopped taking prior accomplishments into account Clark has enough good wins this season where he shouldn't deal with the same thing

OK, since I will no longer have the opportunity to make fun of what's left of Kevin Jackson's thumbprint on the ISU team, I'll take this chance to get my very last dig in.

Two past AAs at ISU, Hall and Witherspoon sneak in as at larges. A four time, undefeated Iowa high school legend, four year starter NEVER EVEN QUALIFIES for Nationals during his career at Cloneville.

ISU won't score more than 10-15 points this year.

That's a really low bar for Dresser to clear.

Good grief. He didn't earn it, and that's why I'm ok with him not being there.
Totally agree. The points scored by the lion's share of the at larges is minimal. It might be a nice thing to have on your resume someday, but other than that... meh!

I guess I have a hard time understanding what Berkowitz did to earn it & find it ironic they picked the guy that's on a team that won't be anywhere in the team hunt. I'm not looking at it as much as Wilcke didn't get in but as a weight class the Iowa Hawkeyes didn't get in.

I'm guessing there is a 3% chance your wife believes you studied statistics in college.

I would think the NCAA would love to replay the 133 B1G championship on their biggest stage.

Harrington gets in with an under .500 record yet Cash stays home??

It won't happen with Harrington, but some of us older guys remember Mark Branch from OSU winning a title after entering the NCAAs with a losing record. Harrington qualified because the allotments at his weight for that conference said he could. You could likely make a valid argument every year for and against certain guys being there.;)

Would have liked to have seen Cash with an at-large bid, but realistically, I highly doubt he would have won a match in STL, anyway. I think he could really do some damage down at 184, but he's just way overmatched against any quality 197-pounder who's cutting down from well over 200. A bit of a bummer, but I'm not convinced he earned it with his performance during the year. Looking forward to seeing him get after it at his natural weight next year. Big difference between 184 and 197.

Exactly, big difference. Remember when Sammy bumped up to face McIntosh in the 2014 dual and got his butt whipped? A match like that has never happened to him at 184, and hes been a top 10 guy his whole career at 184.

I do remember that match well. Sammy lost but he didn't get beat. Kept coming after McIntosh the whole time. If I could tweak one aspect of Cash's persona on the mat, I would make him more aggressive -- the same way Sammy goes for it, win or lose. I think increasing the pace would work wonders for Wilcke.

A bit off topic, and I'm stating the obvious, but there's a lot of work to be done for next year at the heavier weights. Either Marinelli or Kem needs to grow into 165, Young has to grow into 174, Cash has to trim to 184, presumably Holloway has to cut to 197 (or someone has to be found for that spot), and Stoll has to rehab an ACL. Not to mention, Laux has to cut to 125, we have an open competition at 133, and Turk needs to rehab at 141. A real test of TnT's coaching skills coming up; the Hawks could finish out of the money at nationals, and we still might conclude that it was the Brands' greatest coaching effort. I am looking forward to how the Hawks respond.

The Hawks should just forfeit at hwt until Stoll gets back next season, or at least send Bowman or Brantley out there. If Holloway is the guy at 197, he needs to be there the whole year.
