Is it proven that Pete Rose ONLY bet on his team to win when he was manager?

I thought he bet on his team to win when he was a player.

If he ONLY bet on his team to win when he was a manager, that may change my mind on him being inducted to the Hall as a player.

That said, Rose should be in the hall. The history of baseball is not complete without his contributions. Put him and the steroid guys in the bad guys wing and list their cheating on their plaque.

It’s not cheating. Cheating and betting are very different things and have been treated very differently by MLB for more than 100 years. Players betting on baseball, especially in games they’re a part of strike at the very competitive integrity of the game. Even if you only ever bet “on” yourself, unless you’re putting the exact same bet up for every single game, your activity will send a signal to the bookmaker about what you think about your performance or your team’s performance that day. Rose did not bet on the Reds every day and as competitive as he was and as competitive about his gambling as he’s always been, I find it really hard to believe that he didn’t manage differently on days when he had money down…..and that the bookies didn’t notice the days he didn’t bet on his team.
