I see a lot of threads saying we are not a good team, we are garbage. Not a top 10 team and so on. I assume its because we barely beat Iowa. So my question is this. You guys were arguing to anyone that would listen that your football team is good. They won all the games. Ferentz eve had a quote like "its not gymnastics, the goal is to win, not a syle show but win by 1 point". So how is Iowa State basketball winning and going 8-0 qny different from Iowa Football. I m3an you barely beat Nebraska. You barely beat Iowa State, purdue, and a lot of other teams. So does that mean your football team is not good, garbage, not a top 10 team? Whats the difference?

Simple Iowa was never behind by more than a TD all year. If isu is as awesome as clown fans think they are they wouldn't have been down by 20 last night.

Iowa blew the game, that is the issue at hand. Iowa dominated, yet again in Ames and sh$t the bed. It is beyond old here.

Exhibit A: isu fan on HR stating that winning by more than three points is "barely beating" an opponent.

You obviously agree that the football wins by isu over Iowa of 2011, 2012 and 2014 were not games that were won convincingly seeing as how the three point margin is smaller than your examples used here.

Thanks for validating that in advance.

I guess if you don't understand the difference between football and basketball then there is really no hope of you. Not surprising coming from an ISU fan. But for starters, Iowa led the country (at one point) in top 25 road wins. Beat a top 20 team by 30 on the road.

To the OP:
- ISU is a good team (when it wants to be). Sort of play like an NBA team and only turn it up a notch when it needs to. Plays lazy at times and a lot of 1:1 play. When ISU plays together, it can be very good. The problem is stretches of too much 1:1 and lazy defense. ISU will most likely get to the Sweet 16 but I don't see it going any deeper.
- Iowa GAVE that game away. No matter how it is sliced and diced, Iowa GAVE that game away. That's on Iowa and the players and coaches ... I will give credit to a team when it wins, but last night was a text-book example of "How to lose a game." ISU did not win it. Iowa LOST it.
- Yes, ISU is undefeated. And that's not easy to do. So credit should be given ...

Overall, I think this is a good ISU team but definitely not a great team and definitely not a Top 5 team. I think is a #15 or so team. Too much individual play. Bad shots ... Questionable defense ... If ISU decided to play as a team for a full 40 minutes, then you are looking at a Top 10 team.

Has anyone here stated that Iowa was a great football team??

They had won all their games and beat the other teams (some by 3pts and others by 30). They won and that's it. The whole notion that got hawks fans upset was the media kept calling Iowa a fraud and they have no business being rated and what not.

I predicted Iowa to win 7 games and hell they almost are doubling that! So I was shocked the season played out like it did. You also to remember that early on, Iowa not the favorite in a lot of their games. They were the underdogs and came back and won. They were solid and balanced which helped them win games.

ISU returned what 5 starters and had a couple of high profile transfers come in? They are "expected" to be top 5 and NCAA final 4 this year. I mean anyone who knows anything about basketball should of realized that ISU should of won that game by 20 last night. Iowa was unranked and not playing their best basketball. To be within 1pt is a pretty big achievement for the hawks. I predicted a 20+pt loss for the hawks.

If you can erase a 20 point lead it is possible you can win by 20 as well. Last night ISU showed it was good enough to come back from a 20 point deficit even if you don't want to get down by 20 in the first place.

I will agree ISU doesn't look top 5 at this point and was thinking they looked more like a 12-15 team myself, but it matters how good a team is at the end of the year not the beginning.

I think there are a lot of idiots on this board right now, after a gut wrenching loss. I wouldn't make too much of it. ISU is a good team, and I think this Iowa team is better than most thought they'd be. Tough loss for Iowa last night.

Would you really expect civility and logic on an anonymous message board minutes and hours after a ridiculous loss to rival Iowa State?

Iowa State has a good basketball team. How good is anyone's guess at this point.

Oh, and Iowa barely beat Iowa State in football? Iowa completely dominated the second half of that game, won by two touchdowns, and if it wasn't for a Canzeri fumble inside the 10 yard line, Iowa would have won by more.

ISU is a good not great team and IMO is nowhere near a top 10 team! Both players and fans are punks!

The difference is that ISU is actually good in basketball and will actually play the teams to prove it, while Iowa's football team lost to the only good team they played all year.

That is ridiculous. Iowa has a lot of quality wins in football this season. Iowa State obviously not being one of them.

And, let's be real, Iowa State was lucky to win last night.

So NW isn't good, Pitt isn't good, Wisky isn't good? I mean flipping Purdue only lost to MSU by 3. Come on man, its very difficult to win all your games in a regular season. Just like Gus Johnson said, "if it was easy, wouldn't everyone be doing it."?? Indiana was a lot better than most people expected (lead MSU in 4th quarter and took OSU to final play of the game).

Iowa state would not beat 10 of the 12 teams the hawks played. ISU is a doormat in the big 12 and a joke of a program. ISU fans can't accept that and therefore choose not to recognize it and instead put all their stock in the basketball team. That's why the UAB loss last year was so devastating. They didn't have anything to hang their hats on after UAB disposed them from the NCAA. This football season did nothing but push all their fans towards the basketball team. If they do not win it all in basketball, I feel there will be a lot of depressed fans in Ames.

ISU will come back to reality once the Big 12 season starts. They will get beat up on and I seriously think they will take their lumps this season. They have some good players, but if they are "off" they will struggle. Not a very deep bench and foul trouble could spell trouble. I think they will be a top 4 team in the Big 12, but I think they lose some games they shouldn't be losing.

The ISU basketball team better win this year, because they are likely going back to mediocrity next season.

LOL!!

Only bad teams finish a season 12-0 and lose to a top 4 team by 3 points in the last seconds.

Only bad football teams do that....says Delusional State fans and Colin Cowherd.

Classic! Guess 10-2 Northwestern, who beat Stanford, is also one of those bad teams.

If isu is a top 5 BB team so are the Hawks. If the two teams played 10 times each would win five. Do you really realize how close you came to losing in Hilton to an unranked team? Get a clue and go back to your own board and preach to that delusional fan base.

My hunch (and the season will bear this out), is that isu is a top 10 team (not top 5) and Iowa is a top 20 team.

While I want to agree with you, I just don't think this Iowa team has what it takes to be a top 25 team. Teams who are more athletic will give us fits on the boards and in transition. If the team has a good PG, we are screwed because its a guards game now. Another thing I have noticed about this team is they play to their opponents level. Meaning when they face tough opponents they get up and play very well. When they play against lower level teams they play okay, but blow them out anyways because they are so bad.

I think this team can be good, but they have some gut checking to do before Drake. Need to find that killer instinct and start to play like it. I can see this team taking MSU, Maryland, PU, and other top Big 10 teams down to the wire and possibly winning/losing a close game. But I also can see this team struggling with NW, Nebbie, and Rutgers at the same time. Not a good recipe for success.

Just looked again at their schedule, as did much of the nation. Trying to find one. Guess it's really subjective, and that's completely stretching the truth.

They finally played a somewhat decent team in Michigan State...and...LOST

The best thing that happened to you is that you lost last weekend (been kind of a bad week, eh? Oh wait--I forgot, you have two moral victories) so that you don't look like complete fools playing 12/31 against the big boys.

Face it: Play in the Big 12, and you're 6-6, maybe 7-5.

Nope Iowa wouldn't be any different in the no defense Texas Ten.

Face it isu would be 1-11 or 2-10 because they suck that much if they played Iowa's schedule.

You are Iowa STATE. You are terrible. You will always be the afterthought in this state.

Go check out UNI today. More will be tuned into that than anything Iowa St.

To say the clones are garbage is pretty foolish. The clones have been good for a while now...fans are just frustrated with the way we keep losing. To early to say who deserves what ranking, but you guys have a good squad. Going 12-0 regardless of who you play is pretty impressive...do you want to compare football programs? Anyone who would listen, the only ones who struggle with Iowa being good is cyclone fans who can barely get above .500 with their own miserable football program! A 14 point win over your team is not barely...say what you want about the rest. They are all bowl teams.....unlike yours! Close games regardless of who you play are pretty much a guarantee on any championship run or great season....you are either 12 years old or just a homer that is lacking attention!

It's still better than being 2-10 and irrelevant! Lost, better describes your football program! ;)

Never said we had a great football team. Hell, we were crummy in football.

And, as I said yesterday, there was a thread on ISU board earlier this week saying we are likely over rated in hoops. Virtually all respondents, including this one, AGREED.

But, wouldn't you want your hoops team to lose to a top 10 team, rather than an unranked team? Hell, we did that several times in football...something Iowa football didn't experience until December.

So your logic says Augustana would beat iowa roughly 7 out of 10.

Yep that 35 yards of total offense isu had in the 4thh quarter was terrifying. The 67 yards of total offense in the second half was as dominant as any opponent Iowa has faced in decades.

You're exaggerating. The Big 10 hasn't been as bad as it now is for decades. A few years maybe, but not decades.

You can try all you want but I will take my conference over yours any day of the week. You have 2 brand name teams with Texas & OK and 8 other programs that nobody cares about in football. Unfortunately Texas is really bad at the moment. Then in bball you have 1 program that anyone cares about and that is KU.

The Big Ten is better than the Texas Ten this year. Just look at the Top 10 of the CFP rankings.

Does clown fan know what those are?
