Question from a Cyclone is

Question for you - do you think that Iowa should still be unranked after having IA State on the ropes in their beloved Hilton, needing all the "magic" that it and a packed house of fans (crazed from eating Little Caesars pizza for 3 days straight) provided in order to beat Iowa? If your answer is yes (as I suspect), then no, Iowa State is not a top 10 team. If you think that Iowa deserves to be ranked then I would say that yes, it is possible that IA State is a top 10 team. But no way should a top 10 team allow an unranked opponent to come in and manhandle them like Iowa did for over 30 minutes, and then barely win.

No way an NCAA tourney team should allow a D2 opponent to come into their own house and beat them.

In all seriousness ISU is a top 10 team and Iowa will be in the tournament

You are lucky that IA State won. We would not even be having this conversation otherwise as IA State would not be in the top 10.

I agree ISU is lucky to win that game. Iowa State did not play well in my opinion but made plays when they needed to. I haven't been that impressed with ISU so far but I expect them to get better as the season goes on, especially with the addition of Burton

I won't argue with the lucky part, although ISU's good play and Iowa's bad play had at least as much to do with it as luck.

However, I am not sure about the other part of the sentence. Do you think that Iowa is so lowly regarded by the coaches around the country that a loss to the Hawks would knock a team from #2 clear out of the top 10?

I agree. And I believe that IA will play better. That was the first game without Jones. I think that McC did not account for that when he did not play Wagner. Hopefully he will not make that mistake again. Hopefully both teams play great the rest of the year to raise the SOS of both teams.

Possibly. That combined with who IA State had played previously might have knocked them out.

It was an exhibition game. If the game had matterd in my the win loss column Iowa wouldn't have played as many newcomers as they did.

Iowa had 6 scholarship players in the class of 2016 and they combined to play 26 minutes in that game

Just look at football this year. It took Iowa the 13th game to earn respect of the media. They went 12-0 against some good competition, was it the best, probably not. But still to win every game is a feat in its self. Only 1 other team was able to do it and that was Clemson. I could not believe the amount of disrespect for a program. I don't care if it was NW, Wisky, or Minny was 12-0 I would be impressed. Winning every week is difficult and to be able to do it down the stretch when you getting every teams "best" shot, is difficult as well.

So I guess for basketball, Iowa is not thought of a dominate power. I mean everyone was picking them to lose to Davidson last year in the 1st round? Until Iowa can win consistently and be in the discussion for the top 4 of the Big 10, they will never earn respect of the media or coaches. Just my opinion.

Iowa blew the game at the end, but Iowa State still had to make the shots and the free throws at the end to win. So luck or no luck, Iowa State made the plays at the end and Iowa did not.

I think Iowa is a good team who could be a top 25 team if they got any consistent play from their senior guards.

In all honesty, a team can drop that far. A team sometimes even goes up with a loss. Again it depends on who the team lost to and if teams above them even had a worse loss falling below that team.

For example in AP poll 3 North Carolina dropped from #1 to #9 after they lost at UNI. How far a team falls has as much to do with what other teams close to their ranking did that week.
