Question on You Tube TV

I started with Hulu but quickly dumped it because they don't allow hotspot as your home network. YTTV allows that type of connection.

I can get some channels on a couple of my bedroom TV's without a box, just a cable input. Obviously that would change if I drop cable. Could I use Amazon firesticks on these TV's to get YouTubeTV?
Amazon fire and firesticks work unless they are Generation 1. Also am very happy with YTTV.

I switched from PS vue to you tube tv. How do you get the alternate BTN channels? Mine shows one BTN channel. Ps vue used to show all spillover BTN channels. Thx

you click on BTN and it will show different levels when overflow channel in use. You then click game you want

same for ESPN. You click onESPN and then find the station you want. eSPN2, ESPN I or whatever

Our only complaint about YTTV is that recordings of CBS shows playback on CBS on demand with commercials you can’t fast forward through. Definitely not a deal breaker.

FYI - The delay is nonexistent between DirecTV and YTTV while I am watching the World Series tonight because DirecTV has a dispute with my local Fox affiliate so I only have YTTV for watching it. And it's great!

There is truth here. Google will track what you watch and the ads you see when surfing the internet will be adjusted accordingly. They can use YouTube TV as a loss leader.

So you mean advertisements will be more specifically targeted towards things I might enjoy? How dare they!

I wasn't complaining, just making a point that Google can take a loss on YouTube TV because they have the advertising revenue.

I forgot to mention that when I called DTV to cancel yesterday and cited not having Fox as one of the many reasons, they actually tried telling me Fox wasn't blacked out. 2 people asked me to check to "make sure" because they were not aware of Fox not being available and the other told me that negotiations were taking place and Fox would be back any day.

I too have done cable, satellite, and streaming; streaming is by far the best combination of service / quality / price point / flexibility option. Not even close.

Another question on YTTV vs Hulu TV, can you watch via multiple devices from different locations simultaneously with YTTV? It appears you can view unlimited screens at home + 3 screens remotely (on the go) at the same time with Hulu TV for an extra $10 / mo (i.e. Unlimited Screens option). It appears YTTV doesn't have that option and is constrained to 3 streaming devices simultaneously at your home location (with the option to change your home location twice a year). It seems like Hulu TV is the best option for a person that travels a lot / needs view from multiple homes at the same time.

Would appreciate any insight anybody knows. Thanks in advance.

I travel a lot. My wife watches at home and I watch on my phone or laptop where I am. I get local stations for the city I am in. YouTube TV allows three streams concurrently.

Ads should be targetted while keeping your data private (the tech for this is already possible), not by allowing Google/FB to know everything you're doing. Next you'll be okay with someone looking at what you do through your window. I mean hey, you'll get better ads and you don't have anything to hide! Thankfully legislation is headed away from this kind of thought. (End of tech privacy rant, carry on with streaming discussion).

Thanks SCHawk... I'm in the same situation. Much appreciated.

What internet speed would you recommend for You Tube TV?

Depends on the number of devices you are running and what they are streaming,... Not currently running You Tube TV but streaming Netflix, Hulu & Prime on multiple TVs, tablets & smartphones at 60 mbps,... I think a singular TV with a hard wire connection would function OK at 10 mbps....

The only thing I need to watch on broadcast TV are Big Ten sports, so I need BTN, ESPN/ABC, and FS1, with CBS Sports Network on occasion. YouTube TV just makes so much more $$$ sense than any other option.

But one thing: Picture quality. If you've spent a ton on a giant screen that you sit reasonably close to, the picture quality is only decent. In my experience (and yours may vary depending on how much compression your local cable company is doing to squeeze as many channels as possible onto the coax), picture quality rankings:

1. Antenna (if you haven't used an antenna in a while, this one can shock you)
2. DirecTV (very close to antenna)
3/4. YouTube TV
4/3. Cable

You can sometimes get a much better picture by using the network's app. I've got Apple TV, and there are apps for ESPN, Fox Sports (includes BTN), CBS Sports, and some of the major networks.

Watching streaming services also means you need to avoid internet in-game threads, as the slight latency is enough to make for spoilers for every big play.

The YouTube TV DVR is good. I find it easier to skip commercials with a Harmony universal remote, which just happens to skip forward a bit with a button push (as you are rewinding or fast forwarding, a small screen pops up to give you a sense of where you are skipping to). Using the Apple remote requires a bit more finesse, but it is very doable.

I've really liked YTTV and like that when I record something and the event runs long YTTV will automatically keep recording until it is finished BUT... the one thing I've noticed is that the recordings tend to cut off the first few minutes of the start of the event (regardless of sports or TV show).

For example, I was set to watch the Iowa FB game on Saturday but had an interruption that forced me to miss the start of the game. Since I auto record all Iowa sports I went to watch the recording from the start however the start was at the 8:30 mark of the first qtr and had already missed one Iowa TD. I also could not scroll through commercials to catch up with live - each tap or scroll of my Apple TV remote only moved the recording one second ahead.

Anyone else have this happen with YTTV?

Not an issue on my end.

Yes Amazon just added YouTubeTV App to Firesticks

Found out yesterday about the eventual closure of PS Vue...was hoping Amazon would buy up that platform, maybe they still well. I'll be switching over to YTTV, although I'm going to add the Sling Blue package on top of it to get the NFL Network and Hallmark (yes, that slays me). Cost will be similar to PS Vue and less than AT&T Now. Was hoping PS Vue would hold on. The interface is garbage, but by far has the best channel lineup for the least cost right now.

How is the DVR service on YouTube TV? I've gotten to the point that I only watch Hawkeye games live and record everything else so I can avoid commercials. Can you store games on YouTube TV to watch over and over? Mediacom is trying to bleed me dry for channels I never watch.
You can't avoid commercials on all tv shows, depends what you watch.

Never had an issue ff through them for sports though.

go to the "tv listings" part and when you get to btn click on the btn logo, I think that is how it worked before....haven't had to "hunt" for a game for awhile.

Also anyone trying to FF or RW through a lot of show, use the directional pad(at least on roku)....not the ff rw buttons!!! Man that took me forever to realize!! LOL

Oh snap! That's good to know, I thought you had to be in the same zip code!

May be a dumb question, haven't used YouTubeTV or any other only tv service, but can I save a show/game to something(dvd, hard drive) before the 9 months is up?
As far as I know, only if you record the output, as with any medium.

I have tried DirecTV Now (AT&T Now) and YouTube TV because my cable was set to increase again. I liked YouTube TV the best. In the Des Moines area neither service has the local NBC affiliate (WHOtv local news), but has the regular NBC schedule, otherwise. Channel lineups and locals will vary by zip code. YouTube TV was very easy to use.

I didn’t end up dropping cable though, because when I told Mediacom that I wanted to drop it they gave me a really good price with the great TiVo box and 100 Gbits internet. So, for now I am saving more with cable over YouTube TV and having to up my internet speed.

For those wanting to drop cable though, YouTube TV works great. You can use any of the individual streaming apps for anything that you are missing. For instance Hulu with commercials is only $5.99 per month.

I finally cut the cord myself. Will be saving over $50/mo. And that's with me now subscribing to YouTube TV, HBO Now, and PBS (to replace the content I had thru Mediacom)

Thus far 2 days in, I'm loving it!

Cut the cord Friday and got a Roku and YTTV. Still learning to navigate around the menus but the picture quality is great and I watched FOX for the first time in months. So long DirectTV.

YouTube TV is starting to add PBS next week. I emailed Iowa PTV asking re, but have not yet received a response.

Adding PBS to YTTV has been delayed. Won't be this week, but the goal is still in 2019. I received an email from Iowa PTV re. Their answer was something along the lines of they weren't prepared to comment at this time.

I had PS Vue, unfortunately they are going under...they sort of started it all. But they were losing customers to YouTube TV so I switched over to them, also couldn't be happier. I highly suggest using a set-top box of some kind - either Amazon fire cube or roku tv - and directly hard-wiring it to your router, you won't miss a beat.

I made the switch from PSvue to YTTV last week....very pleased. I think it's a better service and the dvr is WAY better.

Wife wasn't happy about losing Hallmark......

I am on day 6 I think and so far so good. It was nice to have Fox Sports Chicago as they had the UNI-Illinois State game Saturday. I did not get this channel on DTV. It is a little odd at first to not be able to punch in a channel, but YTTV does a nice job organizing everything so the sports channels are all pretty close to each other. We have recorded a few shows and not had any issues. It requires a couple more steps but pretty straightforward.

Lol. My wife had the same reaction. That is an added bonus as I won't have to suffer through the awful Christmas movies Hallmark cranks out like fast food. I am sure there is a Hallmark app that can be downloaded. I think I saw a Hallmark on demand channel or something on YTTV.

Frndly tv is a good workaround app that is 8 dollars a month for about 10 happy type channels, the main ones being the Hallmark channels. Nice DVR support as well. My wife is happy now to watch all those Christmas movies they pour out, and we can get rid of it Dec. 26th.
