Did all the early tournament byes hurt the Hawks? How many did we have? 3 or 4? Lots of Penn State guys didn't have byes and scored bonus points. Could the Hawks have won this thing if we didn't have so many first round byes?
I wonder about that myself as well. I also am curious on how close it would have been had Meyer wrestled to seed and Brody managed to place in the top 6.Did all the early tournament byes hurt the Hawks? How many did we have? 3 or 4? Iowa was down 10-0 on the first day to psu if that helps you understand the hole they were in ( i.e. It hurt but didn't decide the outcome).I wonder about that myself as well. I also am curious on how close it would have been had Meyer wrestled to seed and Brody managed to place in the top 6.
Good point as I overlooked Stoll, and thanks Val for that feedback on first day score. Yes, I give credit to PSU as they simply got it done. We also had some guys out wrestle their seed so overall, I thought we wrestled pretty well. Meyer was a bit disappointing, but I hope he can put it together at Nationals.A healthy Stoll would've been good for about 9 more team points, and a 3rd place finish. Had Meyer even gotten to the 3rd place match, and Brody managed to place top 6 or 7 then it might've been a close call. You look at Gilman vs Megaludis too, that was a key factor. But at the end of the day Penn state got the job done and we didn't.
