Nov 26 CFP Rankings: 1ST ROUND BYES for Oregon, Texas, #6 Miami & #11 Boise St. Power 2 Conferences DOMINATE 12 Team Field(4 B1G teams; 3 SEC teams)

Seems like one of the issues they'll revisit.
Giving the lesser conference champs a ticket to the playoffs makes sense in continuing to keep interest in the playoff system. But byes and home games should be based on rank.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they did it this way to pressure Notre Dame into a conference. Imagine how ND is going to feel when they have a first round playoff game on the road in a white out in Happy Valley while two teams they think they are better than (someone like SMU, Boise State, BYU, etc) get byes into the next round because they are in a conference.

Also I’m not sure if they will really do this but I think the committee probably should drop ND a little in the final rankings because they don’t have a 13th game against a good team while everyone else is playing in a conference championship game.

Also I agree this will likely get revisited and in a couple years we will have a 16 team playoff with no byes and no guaranteed seeds for anyone. It will be closer to how basketball does it. Imagine the bellyaching if conference champs were guaranteed a 1 seed in March Madness when the team’s resume probably deserved a 3 or even a 4 seed.

I do agree with you that it makes sense to give these champs a guaranteed bid though (just not a bye). I like how it keeps up interest in the playoffs across the country and excluding one of these conferences from the playoffs altogether wouldn’t be right.

It does make you wonder if Notre Dame might consider joining a conference. If they were part of the ACC, they'd be looking at a 1st round bye and not Miami. Still not sure they are a top 6 team, though.

The Power 2 Conferences (with 8 of the 12 bids) continue to dominate. The Other 2 Conferences (ACC & Big 12) only get 1 bid each.

IMO, an idle Notre Dame should not be allowed to jump the loser of a conference championship game.

8 ESPN writers project #12 Boise State getting a FIRST ROUND BYE.

5 ESPN writers project #21 Arizona State getting a FIRST ROUND BYE.

Arizona State (9-2, 6-2) was picked in the preseason to finish last in the Big 12. Their 2 losses were to Texas Tech (30-22) and Cincinnati (24-14). They finish the regular season at Arizona (4-7, 2-6)

Will the SEC still get 4 teams in the CFP?

In the SEC Championship game, #10 Georgia will face the winner of next week's game between #3 Texas and #15 Texas A&M (in College Station). The Longhorns and Aggies have not met since 2011, when they were both members of the Big 12.

Some excerpts from a fun story from EsecPN:

Somewhere, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is asking ChatGPT to write an argument in favor of the SEC still gobbling up every vacant playoff spot despite Saturday's results

After weeks of lamentations that the SEC has eaten itself because of the depth of quality in the league, it wasn't the quality teams that feasted in Week 13. It was the hungry, huddled masses of Auburn (beat #15 Texas A&M 43-41), Florida (beat #9 Ole Miss 24-17) and Oklahoma (beat #7 Alabama 24-3).

The Crimson Tide have three losses for the first time since 2010.

Here’s where the SEC stands with just one Saturday remaining in the regular season:

Texas is 10-1 with the renewal of the rivalry against A&M awaiting.

Georgia, Tennessee and the Aggies all have two conference losses, but Georgia did officially clinch a spot in the conference title game.

Alabama and Ole Miss are officially out of the SEC title race.

But forget those standings. Consider this:

--Texas was demolished by Georgia, its only game against a team with seven or more wins this year.

--Ole Miss beat Georgia, but has lost to Kentucky and Florida.

--Alabama beat Georgia, but has lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma.

--Tennessee beat Alabama, but lost to Arkansas.

--A&M beat Missouri and LSU, both ranked in the top 10 at the time, but lost to Auburn.

Things look different after Week 13. There is no real hierarchy, no conference supremacy.

There are a handful of clearly good teams -- Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia -- and a whole lot of question marks after that.

In the end, that's probably more fun for everyone.

Well, everyone except SEC Commissioner Sankey.
