quite a final game

It pains me to say this, but it kind of sounds like the Illini team last year...and yes I know they got bounced early by the Ramblers! ;)

that was as brutal of a draw as Illinois could’ve asked for. One of the best Rambler teams in history, and they were motivated to prove Illinois wrong for never scouting them.
Equivalent would be us getting UNI in the first round.. wouldn’t shock me at all, either.

Ramblers actually did not have a roster heavily of Illinois natives last season
I live in Chicago, and I can tell you beating Illinois in that situation was definitely the top fantasy for every Loyola fan and player regardless of where they come from, and that pretty much goes for everyone other smaller instate team. We choked, but damn that was a rough draw. They were ranked like #20 in the AP and were like #19 in the NET as an 8-seed! Had us scouted perfectly, and that was ONE game where having a player as exceptional as Ayo might have hurt … we literally didn’t know what to do when they shut him down, and you’re damned if you keep trying the same stuff, but you’re damned if you just gameplan without your superstar. The second half was SO painful. 😂

Didnt you guys some of your best wins without him though? @michigan comes to mind.

Yeah, which gave me optimism for this year and the years ahead. Having a superstar is a double-edged sword, IMO. Obviously, it’s better than not having one and they can literally win you games by themselves … but if their teammates get too used to them taking over, it takes one off night to stall your entire game plan.
