Where do you think Fran ranks among Big Ten coaches? Here is how I would rank them:

1) Tom Izzo - MSU
2) John Beilen - Michigan
3) Fran McCaffery - Iowa
4) Mark Turgeon - Maryland
5) Thad Matta - OSU
6) Matt Painter - Purdue
7) Tom Crean - Indiana
8) Chris Collins - NW
9) Tim Miles - Nebraska
10) Pat Chambers - Penn State
11) John Groce - Illinois
12) Richard Pitino - Minnesota
13) Eddie Jordan - Rutgers

I didn't rank Wisconsin's new coach because there is no body of work there.

I'm gonna wait until we get to the mid-point of the conference season before answering this question....the next five games will go a long way in giving me enough to gauge Fran's rank.

What has Mark Turgeon accomplished that Thad Matta hasn't? Just curious why you have them in that order.

I would switch Matta and Turgeon, and move Fran down 1, but mostly agree.

13) Eddie Jordan - Rutgers

To early to tell with the new Wisconsin coach but I would have put Bo Ryan at the top of the list.

Chambers is way too high and belongs in the bottom group along with Groce, Crean, Baby Rick, and that joke at Rutgers.

I like Chambers as a coach, his talent isn't anywhere near elite but I think he gets the most out of what he has.

It certainly seems that the quality of coaching in the B1G has taken a step back in the last few years. If this continues we are likely to diminish as leading conference.

Especially since Izzo and Matta might not have a ton of time left.

It used to be

1. Izzo
2. Ryan
3. Matta

Now you simply move Matta to #2. #3 is interesting...probably Beilein? But if he doesnt make the NCAAs this year...back to back with no NCAAt isnt good.

Maybe this perception is because Iowa's own coach is rising in general respect. It's easy to criticize most the coach in your own back yard because the flaws are easiest to see.

I think Crean has done less with more than anyone else on that list, with Groce not too far behind.

Crean absolutely drives me crazy with his back-n-forth pacing throughout the game. I realize this has nothing to do with any coaching ranking but it bugs me nonetheless.

I think Fran is behind Matta and Chambers IMO has done the most with the least so to me he is a great coach! Matta only because he can recruit. But my list would differ if only ability to coach and not recruiting factored in

This is close to what I would have, except I would flip Fran (5) and Painter (6), and flip Groce (11) and Crean (10), although I dislike Crean the most.
