The daughter (no pics) expressed an interest in going to the Big 12 Championship game with some friends. I'm happy about this because I want her get into the whole school spirit thing while she's at school.

The available student tickets sold out in a few minutes, so her and her friends weren't able to get those. That's fine, the game is at Jerry's World, so there are plenty of tickets...

Apparently the tickets are officially sold through SeatGeek. This sucks because with that you get the SeatGeek fees, even though the tickets are retail sales and not aftermarket. They didn't want to sit up in the nosebleeds. Fine. They found the seats they wanted, and all went onto the site and bought them at the same time.

So, for the daughter to go to the game:
Ticket: $176
SeatGeek Fee: $57.35
Tax: $19.25
Total: $252.60

That's for one lower level endzone seat.

I get that tickets will be kinda pricey, but it's the fact that the fees are 1/3 of the ticket price that irks me. Now I just hope that it's at least a good game and we didn't spend that money to see Baylor get boat-raced.

/ticket sellers suck rant.

Yeah, um, try getting a ticket lower level end zone seat at the B1G championship. They start at $530. Does not include fees and taxes. So that ticket is probably more like $800. For whatever reason, the tickets in the other end zone start at $900.

That is because the Big Ten has a real championship game. The big 12 does not even have divisions… It’s just a money grab and an attempt to get a team into the playoffs.

$250 isn’t bad. On a busy Saturday night I’m sure she makes that in just a couple dances.
The sweet, angelic daughter would never, ever be involved in something so... impure. I'm certain that she's never even held hands with a boy, certainly not danced provocatively near one!

If she's making that kind of cash dancing, she needs to pay for her own damn ticket, instead of suckering me into financing it!!

Cheapest ticket at B1G champ game is $319 and that doesn't include the $87.30 in fees. Lower bowl cheapest is $510 and that doesn't include the $131.33 in fees. Sounds like OP is getting off cheap.

All right, so yeah, it could be worse!

Man, that's a lot of money for a football game.

Those fees are horrible.

It's been a few years since I bought Big 12 basketball tickets when they are released to the general public by the Big 12, but I found the email with my confirmation from the Sprint Center for 2017.

Ticket: $195
Facility fee: $10
Convenience fee: $44.50
Will call fee: $6

Each fee was per ticket except will call. So $115 in fees for $390 tickets.

The CHEAPEST seat I saw for indy was 212 bucks plus fees and based off the "seat view" you would have spent the entire game watching the jumbo tron anyway. Those are long gone. The tickets are crazy, 990 bucks got us 2 nights at a good not awesome hotel. I'm at 2k and have not bought a single beer, souvenir, or meal yet.

People seem to be missing the point of the OP. Yes, those ticket fees are ridiculous and excessive. It's an absolute racket to tack on unwarranted, huge fees without providing any real service other than hosting the ticket website.

No... I have read the OP a couple of times. The biggest take away is he has a college-age daughter. You did not mention that at all. Talk about burying the lede.

I wouldnt pay that much to see Iowa in a championship game.
Wife and I talked about it and came to this conclusion. If you have 3500 bucks you can go to "cancun" whenever you want. You can buy things whenever you want. It's in no way shape or form certain you will ever be able to see the hawks in indy again. I wouldn't pay 1500 to go watch the outback because I know we will probably go again.

That's our thinking anyway.

I am, but I don’t have tix yet. Hoping the prices come down as the week wears on?
I bite the bullet today and just paid up from an Iowa guy instead of going through the ticket resources. Sounds like tmrw is the last, best, chance for tickets on the open market. Good luck, let me know if you want to meet up. Honestly, if the guy in the lounge still has the 3 tickets on the 50 for 500 each I would buy them and try to resell what you don't need. It's probably a better deal than what I got (same price but endzone not 50) but you have to deal with that 3rd ticket if you don't want it.

Is dancing (of any type) still a no-no on campus in Waco?

What's even more egregious is that the bastards charge the person selling the tickets a fee too. So they charge a fee on the tickets both coming and going.

Leaving early Saturday morning. Definitely want to take in the downtown festival thing they do - it was a blast in 2015. We’re staying at the Holiday Inn Express right downtown, so will definitely be out and about. I’ll hit you up in your DMs 😉

We are downtown as well. We have a room at the crowne plaza.

You know how to find me outside of here correct? I am but a lowly, non DM, member because Tom won't let me hang out with the cool kids. (Anymore)

Made it easy for you. ;)

That is because the Big Ten has a real championship game. The big 12 does not even have divisions… It’s just a money grab and an attempt to get a team into the playoffs.
Which actually makes more sense with an expanded playoff. I kind of expect the Big 10 to drop divisions, at least as we do them now, and go to a similar system. That way you are guaranteed to get the two best teams in the conference in the championship game and they are playing for seeding more than they are playing to get in. Well, unless it is a down year for the Big 10, then only one team might get in.

At least that's the argument I heard on the radio a while back. I'm undecided on it myself. I probably won't commit to a position either until I've had a chance to look into it more, which I probably won't do unless it becomes a serious proposal.

I'm with you 90% of the time. But 10% of the time, especially at Kinnick for the best game of the year, it is amazing. Especially being there for the PSU game with my 16 (now 17)-year old son. No way in hell though after hotel, meals, travel costs, and tickets, I'm dropping $3k to $4k for the full family of 4 to suffer an ass kicking in person, 7 hours away.
