I have a fake tree. There are a lot of benefits to this.

- No fire hazard. My dad long ago took a real tree to our back yard and put a match to it. Thing went up like a bomb. No fires in my house.

- Don't have to spend money every year on a tree that may or may not last through Christmas.

- No needles to worry about on your carpet.

- Less waste after Christmas is over.

- Don't have to worry about snakes hiding in the branches.

I am going fake this year. Feel like I am doing something unholy. I have always had real trees.
Looking forward to not having to deal with the excessive cost each year and the cleanup post holidays.
Will miss the tradition of going to the tree farm and cutting it down and the smell of the new tree.

Real tree.

Fire hazard? You think a plastic tree can't catch on fire?

Money? What are you, one of the poors?

Needles? Well, duh... that's part of the charm.

Waste? It takes 30 seconds to drag it out of the house and toss it on the curb, vs. trying to disassemble and fit back in the box for storage.

Snakes? You don't think it's possible for a snake to climb into a plastic tree?

- You forgot zero sentiment. Nothing better than picking out a tree and strapping it to the top of the family truckster for the ride home. Iowa City recycles trees so there is no waste, and there shouldn't be a fire hazard if the tree is properly cared for and you don't hang lights with expose wires or keep a bunch of candles next to it.

Growing up it was a silver tree with two light wheels. That was the best tree ever. Fun to set-up.
="NoleSoup4U, post: 1494362, member: 32813"]Dems will probably pass some law soon, banning real trees in the house, "for the environment." So, you're probably better off just switching now.
Although it seems counterintuitive, real trees are actually better for the environment. If no one bought Christmas trees, those tree farms would be plowed over to make room for a crop that doesn't clean the air or provide habitat for years while they grow. And it decomposes when you are done with it. And a new tree can be quickly planted in its place. Compare that to a plastic tree with a manufacturing process that spews pollution into the air and which does not decompose.

And I have a fake tree. But I bought before I understood this concept.

Word on the street is that during the Summer of 2016,
President Obama will issue an executive order banning
live Christmas trees in American homes.

Reason #1......It is detrimental to small children with
allergies. Treating them has raised the cost of Obamacare.

Reason #2.....A Christmas tree is a symbol of the Christian
holiday celebrated on December 25. So by alienating the
Muslim population in America we cause them undue hardship.

Reason #3....It takes 8 years to grow a Christmas tree. By
eliminating them from being cut down, we will help the
campaign to save our planet and be more conscious of climate
change.

Reason #4.....Black Lives Matter and this ban on Christmas
trees will help our nation refocus on police brutality and
the Festival of Kwanzaa which starts on December 26.

Both. Big fake one in the front window my wife bought off of craigslist. That one is just for show. The "real" one is a "real" tree in the family room. We used to have a tradition of going to one of the farms and cutting one down but they've taken a hit from the drought and now we just buy one shipped down from Oregon. Smells better, looks better. LED lights don't burn.

You don't have to be a dick in every thread.

I agree with all the sentiment stuff, but I've redirected to all the old ornaments and decorations for that feeling.

Easier for a dry pine tree to catch fire than a plastic tree that looks real life.

And I have a box that fits it just fine. No worries.

As a bachelor, I put a wreath on the door and called it good. If I settle down again I'll worry about what kind of tree to put up.

Seriously. That's one of the dumbest effing posts I've seen in awhile. Can't just help but interject Obama stuff in a Christmas tree thread where people are playing nicely. That's OiT level.

Fake. But as soon as we buy a house I'll always have real. One of my favorite memories as a kid was going to the tree farm and cutting our own.

Since I moved to Florida I have had a real tree every year. Tile floors make it so much easier with real trees.....just sweep up the dropped needles.

We bought a fake one in July this year at the At Home store for 75% off. A $350 tree cost less than 100 with taxes and even a few new decorations.

I've always had a real one so I will see how this year goes.
