really good pilot explanation of the plane crash

With the helicopter pilot confirming he had visual a couple times….he was watching the wrong aircraft
He had to have been. I don't really know protocol in these situations so I don't know what the options for ATC were but I can only imagine what that controller is going through. I replay stuff all the time in my completely non life altering job. I hope they get really good therapy.

Really seems like the ATC did what they could. Wonder what changes will be made. Even if it's 1 out of 100,000, you'd think they'd try to make it 1 / 200,000 (or whatever the ratio is). But that ATC will never fully shake the 2nd guessing on what else could I have done.

Gonna be bad for the Army if it was all the Army pilot's responsibility.

I love that @binsfeldcyhawk2 liked this post. Dickhead
Dude…you’re way too obsessed with policing everyone’s “ulterior motives”. Three different posters in the last 30 minutes that I’ve seen. Your only post in this thread was to call. a guy a dickhead for agreeing with someone’s post. You’re gonna burn yourself out before the big game.

It's pretty weird.

The only thing I've seen about the controller is he should have given a heading and location of the aircraft to the helicopter pilot. The aircraft is at your 10 o'clock or some such.

With any of these accidents there's usually multiple errors.

Good explanation. Yeah it seems like the controller did nearly all he could…could have given him more info I suppose, but helicopter pilot probably was just looking at wrong plane. Sad deal.

It is reassuring to hear all the ground operations that swung into motion and how professional they all are. Firefighters ensuring they are clear to roll, etc.

Three posters. Same claim. In 30 minutes. Admit it. You’re the secret “you like Trump police”. It’s ok.

And again, he simply gave a thumbs agreeing with someone on a thread about a plane crash and you called him a dickhead. How is his thumbs up “dumb bullshit”?

I think the way the aircraft on approach were stacked that wouldn’t have made a difference. Pilot thought they had the plane at that direction, and never saw the closer one.

I’ve only taken off and landed a couple of times, but when doing it at Defuniak on the dirt strip for crosswind I had someone else in the pattern, and it was kind of surprising how fast things intersect. He was several hundred feet below, but I remember thinking if we’d been at the same altitude there wouldn’t be any time to maneuver out of the way once you realized what was going to happen.

Helicopter was too high. Don’t know that ATC had that info. Is that passed electronically nowadays, or only by pilot confirmation?

if they had on night googles. It would have really made it extra difficult for them.
I heard this yesterday and immediately thought of the difference of driving in a snowstoem with and without brights on.

Sure, you can kind of see better, but you can kind of see to much.

Agreed. It is difficult for the pilot to override what they are seeing visually. He is told there is a plane coming he sees a plane thinks that is the one they are talking about. He gets questioned about it twice and says he sees it.

Multiple military sources have indicated that an experienced Blackhawk crew like this one would not have deployed night vision while still within vicinity of the airport and downtown DC...

Well depending on how long they were doing it the strain on the eye takes a toll as well. How long before that starts affecting your brain, motor skills, decision maker.

Yes, but if they are coming off hours of using night googles it still takes time for your body to get back to normal though. Just saying it could have been a factor.
Bottom line it appears they shouldn’t be practicing near this airport. That is already congested.

DEI hired Air Traffic Controllers
DEI screened Army Helicopter Pilots

Thanks Obama & Biden you bastards.

This is why America will fail.

I thought they were just heading out when the crash occurred,.. with the intention of doing their night vision training outside the city..
