LolHe was raised right.
He'll do what his father tell him!!!!![]()
I appreciate your support!Let's say he has the same kinda year this year as '17. Does he get drafted/free agent offer in '19? Leg strength and accuracy both are good. Your thoughts?
Nope. This coming fall is his final (5th) year, so if he would have left early, it would have meant for this year’s NFL draft. He wouldn’t leave a year early, would he?
A walk-off FG like Houghtlin and Murray had would get some SportsCenter eyeballs involved. Not that NFL scouts need SportsCenter to find talent...He should have some chances to shine. Iowa usually is on a major network and plays a lot of close, competitive games. If I were a kicker, that's the recipe I want for exposure while I'm attempting a meaningful kick.
I appreciate your support!
Miguel is approaching this in steps (which I think is absolutely the right thing to do)
4. Gain KF’s trust to take 50+ yd attempts, and take more than 20 total attempts/season
You're welcome. Is there any off season exercises that he's doing to improve leg strength? Is his 50+ yd accuracy improving? Your son ( or someone on staff) must be charting this, right?
Thanks RCjazzman
I like this type of inside info. You're welcome.
At Iowa, the specialists do everything the other position guys do, without exception. Based on my conversations with other programs, this is very different than what many other programs do, where the specialists have a lighter workout than that of the other position players. So, needless to say, Miguel has been "Doyle-ized". Miguel's range is now about 56-58 yards with a live snap-and-hold. On sticks, he's hit from 60.
During official practices (eg; spring ball, fall camp, in season), every kick is charted and videotaped. So, there's tons of data generated. Miguel has shared some of it with me. I don't know his completion % at 50+, specifically. I can tell you that his completion percentage during spring ball 2017 was about 75%, fall camp 2017 was approx 92%, spring ball 2018 was about 75%. His average FG distance during spring 2018 was about 8 yards further back, as compared to spring 2017.
Caleb (aka, Mighty Mouse) has a big leg. He has done a great job recovering from a significant lower extremity injury which he sustained some time ago. Duncan was red-shirted in 2017, and is still with the team. Caleb was cleared to resume kicking late in the fall 2017. Miguel sustained a quad strain during the Nebraska game last year, so because they wanted to preserve Duncan's redshirt, and because Caleb had resumed kicking and was doing well, Caleb got promoted to 2nd string for the PinStripe bowl.Hello, RCJazzman. Can you tell us anything on the #2 guy behind your son on the depth chart -- Caleb Shudak? I thought the North Carolina kid would be #2 (Keith Duncan). Did Duncan redshirt last year or is he still with the team?
As always, best wishes for Miguel ( and you as well). Hope he can put his name on an award besides Nate Kaeding (The Lou Groza award). Seems like a lot of awards can get political at times. Go Hawks!
