Shameless plug here, but if you want less expensive cell service, check them out

I just started a monthly plan at 3GB/month at $30/month - Verizon (CDMA) towers, and aside from a few minor glitches getting the phone set up, great service and easy.

Today (maybe longer) they are offering the CDMA (Verizon) and other towers plans on the annual payment for 5GB/month, $16.25/month. Per their Chat, you can activate that plan any time within 90 days of purchase.

Main caveat is when you switch to a new plan, it overwrites your existing one, so you want to swap over on the last day of your monthly service.

I used to pay >$60 per month on ATT (had unlimited grandfathered data plan, but rarely used more than 2 GB/month, so 5 GB for me is plenty since I mostly connect via Wifi anyway)

So, here's your shameless plug for using any of the major carrier's towers via RedPocket mobile:

CDMA: Verizon
CDMAS: Sprint
GSMA: ATT
GSMT: TMobile

NOTE: I have no affiliation with these guys whatsoever; but the thread on people looking for cheaper options a month ago popped into my head when I saw these RedPocket Black Friday deals. My phone lists "Verizon" as the carrier thru RedPocket - I suspect the main difference with MVNOs is your data might be lower priority when at concerts/games, etc and connection may be slower than actual Verizon customers; over the past 3+ weeks I have had zero problems, and am enjoying getting signal in areas that ATT did not have any service from my last plan.

You do need to have an unlocked phone and buy the SIM from RP that corresponds with the towers you want to use; upside here is you can get the SIM for other carriers and switch between them.

You're welcome!

EDIT: Also note: MMS doesn't work on ATT non-iPhone devices. Works fine for me on an iPhone and CDMA network. Check their FAQ on that and any other quirks. You do have to "set up" your visual voicemail service after signup, and it took a couple hours for my phone to show LTE service as it initially only connected via 3G for the first hour of activation. You do need to respond to email links as part of the phone activation, so recommend NOT trying to switch on a day you will need phone connection. I had a couple minor issues but they were solved quickly via their Chat connection online from my main computer.

FYI: Apparently, this $16.25/month 5 GB plan is still being offered, maybe thru the holiday season, or thru CyberMonday.

This is <1/4 what I used to be paying AT&T every month. If the Search function worked, I'd have posted this in that cellphone plan thread, but didn't want to dig around for it.

I've been on an MVNO for many years now. Most of the people I know waste at least a thousand bucks a year.

And probably at least half of that is going toward all the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile advertising you see on TV and ads at sports venues.
