Remaining dual schedule...

Has there ever been a more dreary home dual meet schedule than the one this year? We were looking at the schedule yesterday trying to find a date to attend a dual as a family and there are only three home duals in 2016 and none of them look very good IMO. (Granted, normally Minny would be a good one, but they look pretty puny this year comparatively.)

We don't wrestle OSU or PSU in a B10 dual? I assume this is due to adding Rutgers and Maryland and watering down the schedule...if so, that stinks.

I wouldn't say the schedule is flat... Typically Iowa State, Wisconsin,Minnesota and Northwestern are pretty good (tough) BIG 10 Dual Meets. It's not Iowa's fault that those teams are on a different (lower) level this year.

However, with that being said....I would love to see Iowa quit scheduling teams like South Dakota State, Montana State and the cupcake teams we always seem to invite to the Iowa City Duals and start scheduling other teams like Cornell, Missouri, or Virginia tech. Iron sharpens Iron.... Our guys will get better wrestling "Top" opponents and not the Division 2 guys...

That's twice recently someone has used the phrase about "iron sharpens iron." That is physically incorrect. You cannot sharpen something with the the same material of the same hardness. Iron is sharpened with stone.

Just to clarify, I don't think he was really literally suggesting that you sharpen iron with iron. I think he was suggesting that a tougher schedule would help the Hawks. Just saying.

I don't agree with the article. There are varying degrees and qualities of "iron". And in ancient days there was rarely a uniform type in their more crude methods, thus, one surely was harder than another and could sharpen. There is a type of iron for both the knife and the sharpener/file.

Also, consider the source of your article and what else he said. He thinks the Spirit gave him this special knowledge on this. That's always a red flag for me.

I am just sharing what the Spirit has made known to me. If you want to possess knowledge you must meditate on the Word yourself. Consider everything that I say as only a question and doubt it all. Be a true Berean and test what I said.

Not sure if you are serious or being sarcastic, so I will take the high road and assume you are being sarcastic. But just in case you weren't.... it was just a figure of speech. I was just trying to say that I think the Hawks would benefit from tougher competition.

Well this thread took a wrong turn a few miles back. Anyways, with The GOTG to open the year, a B1G team at IC Duels, the B1G Championships, and Olympic Qualifiers, I would feel petty complaining about the conference regular season home schedule.

Our guys wrestle is the toughest conference in the country and have one of the toughest rooms in the nation. Wrestling a few easier teams to start the year does nothing to hurt the team. Wrestling great teams every week will do a great job of never letting guys feel 100% though. Go coach a team and give it a try

I never said they didn't wrestle in the toughest conference...
I never said that they wouldn't be good wrestlers by wrestling easier teams.

I just stated that Iron sharpens Iron. Wrestling better wrestlers will make you better. That is true in every sport.

Because of my opinion, you are now challenging what I may or may not know about wrestling by telling me that I need to go coach a team and give it a try???? Why did you need to say that?

Some people (like YOU) are waaaaaaay to eager to jump off the cliff and start a fight on these message boards..

This. It is certainly unique and if you missed the GOTG you did miss a lot. Minnesota sucking hurt the balance of the regular season schedule and that's no one's fault but theirs.

It was GREAT to see them add a quality team to the IC Duals. Let's hope they step it up again next year. Finding a way to not wrestle it on a weekday would be nice, too but also a challenge.

we are all disappointed that penn. st. and oh, st. are not on the schedule, it is what it is, but it kind of adds to the intrigue of this season. we won't find out until it really matters if( bs and retherford) or (gman and megaman) and many others are going to prove what each fan base believes to be.

The grapple killed it and adding Maryland into the IC Duals was good too. I can't complain too much, but since it's a message board, I will give it a shot. I am irritated that the furthest east we travel this year is Chicago / Champaign. I like to take in a few in IC each year and then at least one near Ohio, where I live, PSU, fOSU, Edinboro etc.. I get the out west deal with Montana State, but for recruiting, would rather see us either wrestle in Cali or out East, where youth wrestling is on fire (not literally - for you Iron sharpens Iron debaters.)

agreed, but patience isn't a strength of mine and think how electric carver would have been for these matches!
