Report: A minimum-wage worker can't afford a 2-bedroom apartment anywhere in the U.S.

1) Where is a women "forced" to carry a child?

2) What is your definition of often? Do you have statistics that show how many mothers get no help from the father?

3) Oh no, no alcohol or tobacco for 9 months...the horror. Also LOL at you discussing how their body will be changed forever but how terrible it is they cant use substances that have shown to do way worse to their bodies.
When said forced I meant it in the sense that the Republican view of trying to make abortions illegal. The alcohol and smoking along with the body changes were comparing the differences between becoming a parent for a female as opposed to a male. Finally this is a article I found regarding child support payments.

D. So what happens to all the current minimum wage jobs then? People just stop working them?
Uh, if the need for the job is still there and they can't find workers willing to take said jobs then they will have to increase what they are offering to pay. It's called supply & demand.

What many people don't seem to understand about this topic is that no matter where you set the minimum wage it's still going to be the MINIMUM wage, as in "the lowest possible hourly wage you can earn". As soon as we raise the minimum wage the wheels of inflation will begin turning and within 3-5 years that minimum wage worker will once again, on a relative basis, be just as poor as he is today,.... You know why?,... Because he's working for minimum wage, that's why.....

This is an argument to raise the minimum wage and cut welfare.
I think it is more of an argument to help these people gain the skills required to hold a better paying job. Don't tinker with min. wage because of some that made bad choices. Most minimum wage jobs can be left to hs and college kids that are earning spending money while being supported by mom and dad.

Also, if the minimum wage increases suddenly and rapidly, it de-values jobs that only pay a little more than minimum wage. Or, those other wages go up proportionately and everything else goes up.

So you want more welfare. My way is easier, but I won’t complain if you want to support a massive job training program.

And probably considerably more than minimum wage. Also. Who cares? Don’t like it, go work butt off and make something better out of your life.

Good grief. The amount of enabling in this thread is ridiculous.
I'm thinking about this from the perspective of the customer, not the workers. You ask Who cares? The person who is completely dependent on an underpaid workforce. You get what you pay for.

And that is exactly where the impact will begin,... Raise the minimum wage to $15 and that assistant manager at McDonald's currently making $15 isn't going to be happy until he gets $20, and his boss, the manager, is going to want his $20 job raised to $30,.... This will work it's way through the entire work force resulting in higher wages for everyone along with the higher product costs associated with those increases...

I would be in favor of ending welfare for able bodied people and bringing back orphanages for their kids.

Your way would force prices up, and probably cause companies to implement automation sooner.

Empirically my way does not to any significant degree. Your way would require a massive tax increase, which I don’t oppose necessarily but which makes your plan harder to pass.

Why can't we do $10 an hour instead? A happy medium?

Heck, it's been 9 years since it was raised.

If your way works, then why not raise minimum wage to $100/hr or $150/hr. Errybody be rich.

Make a valid point then. The world is a cruel place. You and I and 99% of the posters here won by being born in the USA. You’re just ignorant of what else exists in this world.

This, a thousand times this. We have been given a golden key at birth. All we have to do is use it.
