This thread is turning into a surrealistic nightmare.

Twaltz making the thread entirely about him, claims he's not an attention whore. Says he's surprised more of those lousy, no-good journalists haven't been gunned down in cold blood, then acts like the real victim in all this.

He seems like a quality human being.

I did. Funny thing I ran into Hardaway by chance 4 years ago having lunch a the Germantown Commissary in Memphis. We talked about this. No he didn't know my name but like he said he never knew me by anything but "Coach". He told me this Gould character called him at all hours of the night harassing him. He told him he didn't recognize my name and he told me he was sorry about it. Like he said that was a long time ago. Penny is a great guy...he told the truth. He also told me he had no idea how or who gave Gould his phone number.

I'm still confused about what pissed you off so bad

Here is the only line in the article about Penny

Thompson was a three time coach of the year in Mississippi and Tennessee with a career record of 401-193. He also coached Penny Hardaway on an AAU team.

What about that line pissed you off so bad? Was she trying to shame you? Everything in that article was positive and I don't see an editor's note. Your above rant about coaching Penny in AAU didn't help clarify that point.

Looks as if some little PC snitch got his panties in a wad so I am posting under this username...and it will be my only and last post. This story didn't bother me...it was the hack job he did 1 month AFTER I had left Florida is what bothers me. He knew damn well what he was doing. I was 750 miles out of the way where the coward felt I wouldn't bother him. Then he flat out lied. I tried to sue the guy but being in TN and in another coaching job made it difficult. Plus every lawyer I talked to said it was a fruitless waste of time/money and I would never see anything. The fraud was pretty sharp but he knows what he did and he knows what I have on him...all he does is scream "harassment"...now that's rich isn't it. You boys take care...it has been fun. I'm sorry it turned out this way. As to the coward who got me banned...well good for you. Once again if I offended any of you good people I do apologize. I also apologize for making this about me...I just wanted you guys to see where my beef with certain elements of the media lie.

Here is another article from after TW was fired. There are a lot of things that his editor note didnt address. What is up with the made up schools? Also, this note is hilarious considering how much you bitch about this.

"I am retired from coaching and I don't have any more time to devote to this,'' he wrote in an e-mail from Tennessee

Once again see the Editors Note. There was more but the paper failed to print it. Still damning for them. Follow Twitter @msbbkcoach for anything else.

Honesty, after reading your posts and reading those articles, I tend to believe the articles are accurate and you are likely mentally unstable. Best of luck to you and I hope you never resort to violence to settle your perceived injustice.

Biscuit...if you read the "story" you will see where this fraud claims I was "fired" from one school system and then hired 2 weeks later at another. Now carefully read this:

As you can plainly see I turned down the job 1 month before his so called date of termination. Either the guy is the biggest liar on the planet or just incompetent. His own publication published the story concerning my resignation...and the reasons why. Now you boys can trust media...I don't.

Damn TW, is a shady MF'er. No wonder he doesn't like the media. They actually dug into his life and found out what a huge liar he was.

Can you explain this? Did you lie on your application?

He claims, for example, to have won a total of 80 games at two schools in Tennessee that do not exist. The AP in Tennessee does not award coach of the year honors.

Quote from the shooter's manifesto.

Did he ever document it...or are you just taking the word of a shady shyster? I have already proven him a liar in several things he wrote. The guy made a big deal about going to USA Today on his Twitter and he didn't even last a year before he "mysteriously" took a job in AL. I stand by my records as do pretty much everyone else...including the Tampa Bay Times.

So Biscuit concerning the story of my resignation from Gulf...tell me how could I have been "fired" on Sept 23, 2009 when I had actually resigned August 11, 2009 and his paper reported it? Now how can that be especially since on the day he says I was fired I was already at Springstead? How can one person be 2 places at one time. You boys have got to quit believing everyone in the press are good, honest people. Most are...this clown wasn't...and his own employer at the time even proves him a liar.

You seem to be the only shady MF'er in this article.

As for the questions about his background, he wrote, "I would think any reputable school system would have checked my credentials before I was hired, wouldn't you? I have always been able to get coaching jobs without any problem. Maybe they know something you don't know.''

On various documents, he uses three different names for that school, where he said he worked from 1986 to 1993. It's "Country Day Prep School" on his Hernando resume and "Country Hills School" on his Pasco application. On a document he filed in 2003 with the Mississippi Association of Coaches — a source Thompson pointed to as verification of his job history — he lists an overall record of 50-18 at "Country Day H.S. Memphis, TN." Problem is, no school by any of those names existed in Tennessee during those years.

Thompson's resume notes that he earned AP Coach of the Year honors in Tennessee in 1995. Teresa Walker, the AP sports editor in Tennessee, said in an e-mail to the Times, "AP has never named a high school coach of the year while I've been here, going back to 1989."

Your whole story is littered with holes. Regardless if it was all a ploy by some crazy journalist, you need to clean up your loose ends better than you did. The media is going to find those and roast you for them. You should be more pissed at yourself for lying to gain employment than being mad at this journalist for digging into your past.

Why so many holes in your resume?

On resume, many red flags

A Times' review of Stephen Ray Thompson's resume showed a number of questionable assertions:

• Thompson stated he coached at Seneca (Ky.) High School from 1997 to 1999. Athletic director Scott Greenwald, who took over the program in 2001, said the coaches during that time were Chuck Nallavenko (1993-99) and Tony Branch (1999-2005). Greenwald also said Thompson was not an assistant on those teams. "He did not coach at this school," Greenwald said.

• Two schools Thompson said he led to the playoffs for a total of 80 wins in six seasons — Country Day Prep and Chattanooga Workman — did not exist in the years he claimed to be coaching there.

• Thompson claimed to be at Country Day Prep from 1986-1993. Instead, he was teaching at Carroll-Oakland Elementary in his hometown of Lebanon, Tenn., from 1988-1990.

• Thompson's resume lists accolades including leading Tyner (Tenn.) High to the "Sweet 16" while earning Associated Press Coach of the Year honors in 1995. TSSAA assistant executive director Matthew Gillespie said Tyner did not make the playoffs in boys or girls basketball that year. Tennessee AP sports editor Teresa Walker said the AP has not awarded a Coach of the Year since she arrived in 1989.

• Thompson lists his overall record at Tyner as 58-27 for three years. According to a newspaper report, Thompson coached for two years and his record was 32-22.

• Thompson said he led Philadelphia (Miss.) High to the playoffs three consecutive seasons, including the "Sweet 16" in 2007. The school's athletic director, Tristan Howell, said Thompson won just nine games in three season and did not make the playoffs.

• Thompson lists coaching Smith County (Tenn.) for two years to a 30-20 record. Smith County athletic director Larry Silcox, who has been with the school for 30 years, said Thompson coached only the 1986-87 season and led that team to an 8-15 record.

• Thompson claimed 401 career wins as a varsity boys basketball coach when he arrived on the North Suncoast. His resume said 377. Through interviews and documents, the Times could verify 97 wins.

Interesting comment since you were fired from the school in less than one year. I'm not going to try to defend every thing you think the guy did, but as Fred has pointed out, there are a ton of issues brought up and you aren't addressing most of them. Why did you claim your were AP coach of the year? What is the deal with the Country Day school?

Have no idea fredo...and neither does Isadore. I asked them to send me their documentation concerning this but their Senior Editor Jim Booth refused me claiming them to be "classified". I guess he got tired of having to cover for Izzy's lies.

I was out anyway...and the school knew it. Couldn't stand the place...not my culture...and if you read my comments you will see I said they were within their rights. It happens in Florida all the time...it is an "at will" employment state with no tenure...and no contracts. If you will read the comments from the people with the school system you will also see they backed me even when it would have been in the best interests to throw me under the bus. As to the coach of the year...they were district coy...I have long since taken the blame for that.

Fredo...I am retired...last year I was nominated to the TN HS HOF...I have plenty of friends in media who saw this for what it was...a hack job. Gould did not in any way totally document his story...there were lies and inaccuracies on his part...I have shown you a few here today. If your story isn't 100% accurate it isn't a story...it is journalistic malfeasance...and it should have never been written and published.

Another one from Izzy...now look carefully Biscuit...see the date...8/11/2009...now once again how could I have been fired on 9/23/2009 when I had already resigned? In the face of this you have the nerve to call me a fraud? Izzy Gould is the fraud....and he knows it. I never wanted a lawsuit because he never hurt my reputation or earning...all I ever wanted was an apology from the hack. Any more questions fellas? If not adios.

As I said there were questions asked...it is my responsibility as a public figure to answer them...it isn't personal when my reputation has been bashed...it is public.

dumb. You brought it on. Not others. I can't fathom how you could think this was a good idea in the first place. You should send an email to a mod and ask for the thread to be deleted.

Explain the schools on your resumé that didn't exist.
I was at Country Day Academy from 1978-83 when it closed. I have no clue where Gould got his information on schools that didn't exist because neither he or the paper would disclose them to me or my father's attorney. It was my dad's attorney that got them to publish the Editors Note a year after the story was published...initially they weren't even going to do that.

I am only answering questions...people seem interested. Isn't that what this forum is about? Are you a journalism student...if so maybe you should learn from this.

And Chattanooga Workman? I put that one in Google and nothing comes back, but it was apparently on your resumé as a place you coached at.

Chattanooga Kirkman HS...Gould couldn't get the spelling right.

The story says you claimed to be at Country Day Prep from 1986-1993, at which time you were actually working at Carroll-Oakland Elementary School in Lebanon, Tenn. from 1988-1990. So did you lie on the resumé as to what years you were working at these various places?

Also: What years then did you work at Chattanooga Kirkman?

Well once again I have no clue what Gould was referring to. I was at Kirkman from 1983-85. You are obviously an intelligent guy...what you need to ask yourself is why in the 34 years I coached and taught was I not "discovered" before this if I am such a fraud. Heck I coached basketball in the state of Kentucky. Those media people up there are very concise and accurate when it comes to basketball coaches and their records. If I were a fraud you can bet they would have discovered it...very quickly.

Izzy seemed to miss this...wonder why? Boys record only...

AP Wire | 06/22/2005 | Philadelphia High names boys basketball coach
www.sunherald.com, 22 June 2005 [cached]
PHILADELPHIA, Miss. - Philadelphia High School has hired former West Marion coach Stephen Thompson as its boys basketball coach.

Thompson, who coached at the Foxworth-based school in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 before leaving the state, is 220-98 in 21 seasons as a high school coach in Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky.

He replaces Keith Robinson, who is leaving to coach at Pascagoula High.

Thompson, a native of Lebanon, Tenn., coached last season at a high school in Russellville, Ky.

He also has a total 10 years of coaching experience at two schools in the Memphis area, three years near Chattanooga and a total six years at three Kentucky schools.

Philadelphia principal Bobby Luke said Thompson will run the boys basketball program in grades 7-12.
