Republican debate

The best multi-candidate discussion was on Social Security.

Cruz wants to scrap it.

Paul and Christie have this bizarre idea that if the money is gone SS is just out of luck.

I remember telling that to my landlord one year. "Sorry the money is gone, I don't have to pay you." You can guess how well that worked.

Rubio and Cruz tried to reassure that although they were planning to dismantle the program, those already on it would still get it. Although they might get less.

Only Huckabee called bullshit on these criminals - pointing out that this was an obligation that had to be met and, moreover, that the worst off SS recipient should be above the poverty line.

There's a lot I don't like about Huckabee, but he put the others to shame on this issue.

The CNBC after-debate analysts were casting Trump as the loser. Clearly that's their agenda. Trump did fine. Not as good as his first outing, but as good or better than his 2nd.

The huckster sounded liberal on a number of issues. Maybe he is that elusive fiscal liberal, social conservative.

Ha.

I still think he and Santorum should start the American Christian Party. With Huck being reasonable on SS and healthcare, and Santorum being supportive of workers, they might be better than what the GOP finally picks. I'd take them over Cruz-Walker.

I could be wrong. I thought it would come down to Bush and Rubio. Still kind of think that, but Bush was so forgettable tonight he may have even lost the GOP establishment. Possible opening for Kasich and Christie now. If I am betting today, I say Rubio vs. Clinton next November.

First Christie says wind and solar are good examples of what works. Then he says government should stay out of it. All the while ignoring the obvious fact he knows that wind and solar work only because of government intervention. A fact he even admitted to in his prior sentence.
One question on climate change. Potentially one of the biggest economic crises we will ever face, and one question. And they asked it of the only guy in the main debate who has ever said anything reasonable on the subject.

Talk about protecting the idiots from exposure.

Christie certainly could have done better.

Unless the GOP has a work-around, I think it's still a requirement that P and VP be from different states. Maybe Jeb has homes in other states so he can pretend to be from Texas or Maine or something.

Bush didn't look lost tonight and spoke well enough. That's an improvement. As the presumptive heir, that's good enough for now. Eventually, he'll have to do better.

Rand Paul is a good guy, with good intentions. But, he has no political charisma for an office like the President. he also lacks his father's resolve, convictions and courage to actually address what is really affecting the country and the world. His father had such a huge following because he wasn't a consummate politician.

Politicians are sell-outs.

These people are so blatantly bought-off. Just one shuck-and-jive after another. I lasted about 1/3 of the way through.

Global warming is only a crisis in the minds of liberals. GTFO.

I don't know why people are saying Cruz did well. Other than his obviously-scripted outburst against the media - which started well and then just wandererd off track in a weird haze - other than that, he was mostly the same whiny no-show he has been in all the debates.

Why does anyone give a shit what WWJD or natural have to say about this debate? Each of them will vote for Hillary. That should show what sort of credibility these clowns have about this debate.

Fiorina is all but out of it. She failed to shine tonight. Probs to Chris Christie to mentioning Hillary Clinton in all of his responses. Huckabee is wasting everyone's time. Ditto for Paul. Jeb scuffled.
Trump and Kasich won in my mind. Carson whiffed on his chance to show his polls aren't a random blip. His bland personality and lack of understanding of broader issues showed tonight.

Bye, bye,... Carly! No sympathy seeking tirade from her tonite. She gets a bump when she is viewed as a victim. The others never let that happen.

Kasich looked like he was withdrawing from a meth addiction. He was terrible.

Kasich is just sick and tired of playing second fiddle to a couple of morons and his frustration is showing.

Couple that with the realization that he has to somehow get the idiots that believe the two current front runners are actual good, legitimate candidates to vote for him and I can clearly understand his frustrations

I for one am glad to see him get after it tonight, not enough - but a start. As stated earlier, the GOP would be asinine to not push a popular OHIO politician to the front of the pack. Whether that's VP or President is yet to be decided, but they need him for sure if they're going to win next year.

You do understand that CNBC is overwhelmingly pro GOP, right?

They were ill-prepared. The questions they asked were fine, but by not having sufficient follow ups and sources they failed as moderators.

Trump lied, and they busted him.

Carson lied about his affiliation with a snake-oil company and doesn't know what GDP is.

There were no substantive follow ups on Marco Rubio's financial issues or Carly Fiorino's record at HP.

I don't know how much more I can take of people like Cruz and Fiorina pretending they aren't working for the top 1%. They are spitting out standard lefty lines, but notice that they aren't saying they plan to do anything about the problems.

She railed on big government creating winners and losers, citing recent acquisitions as a major problem (specifically Walgreens/RiteAid).

Anyone remember who HP acquired in 2001, during her tenure?
