Doing nothing seems to, once again, be the stock conservative answer to gun violence. How in the Hell are we going to solve this problem if we can't even research it?

"Despite an epidemic of mass shootings, House and Senate Republicans have kept in place a 17-year-old ban on using any government funds for research into lessening gun violence.

The recently released omnibus, a must-pass bill to keep the government funded, doubles down on a congressional ban on any money for the Centers for Disease Control to do research into why so many shootings keep happening, in spite of a push by House Democrats to strip it out.

“The inclusion of this rider is outrageous. 30-plus people are being killed every day by someone using a gun, and House Republicans refuse to even take the most basic steps to help lesson this loss of life,” said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

“No one can offer one good reason to keep this ban in place. This rider has prohibited experts at the CDC from reaching the causes and best ways to prevent gun violence for nearly 20 years. The omnibus bill gave us a chance to fix that, but once again Republicans refused to simply get out of the way and let our experts do what they do best — conduct research that will save some lives.”

If there was a scientific study proving that current gun laws led to thousands of deaths, the right wing wouldn't believe it anyway, so what's the point?

Bullshit. There is a ban on advocating gun control by using government funds, which the CDC was caught red handed doing. There is not now, never was there a ban on research. Claiming there is, is lying.

Private research? No. Public research? You better believe the GOP will do everything in their power to squash information.

Why is a study needed?

The left and right have already made up their minds and have all kinds of stats to back up their views.

The science is settled on this issue.

How about we ban the study of all violance? Now the world is safe. Close up our military bases and declare the war on terror won.

Why study anything? If almost 20 years of banning the public study of gun violence is good enough, surely we don't need to worry about studying disease, the economy, or even how to take out ISIS. Just look up stats on google. Problem solved.

Yeah, why do we need studies....you have the answers to everthing. A common trait of liberals. Why doesn't anyone listen to you?

Shocking that liberals would lie.

Skip the study, the problem is not guns.

Your Welcome

since guns don't wake up and put on their pants and then get in the car and go drive around looking for places to do violence: then it's impossible to study gun violence.

Great! No need then for the usual liberal panty wad circle jerk on gun control!

Thanks for the update.
That's what the tread is all about. But wouldn't you miss the lib panty wad jerk off? Cons always win the argument, I would think it would be fun for you.

Watching liberals cry and wail like babies over knee jerk issues is funny but sad at the same time. Sad because they are so misguided.

How many BILLIONS of dollars would the govt' spend to show that guns don't commit violence, people do.

Wait….I already know that.
