A resurfaced video from 2007 showing Kamala Harris, then San Francisco District Attorney, discussing the possibility of authorities entering private homes to check on gun storage safety has ignited backlash from gun rights advocates.

In the 15-second video, Harris, speaking at a press conference about a gun control ordinance, stated, “Just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.”

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) Chairman Alan Gottlieb expressed alarm at Harris's comments, describing them as both "stunning" and a reflection of her long-standing anti-gun position.

“This was Kamala’s typical word salad, but with vinegar dressing,” the veteran gun rights advocate observed. “Taken at face value, this remark underscores our contention that she has been an anti-gun extremist throughout her political career.

Gottlieb also pointed out that Harris, a former prosecuting attorney, should have known that such an approach would violate the Fourth Amendment, which protects against warrantless searches.

"The Bill of Rights means nothing to Kamala Harris if it stands in the way of her gun prohibition agenda. What she was suggesting was, and remains, simply outrageous. It clearly shows the lengths and depths to which Harris would go in her personal war against the Second Amendment," said Gottlieb.

Did a Kamala Harris staffer say that the VP ‘doesn’t’ own a firearm?

“Just like Joe Biden, Harris claims she is a gun owner,” Gottlieb added, “because it serves her political purpose. It’s not about whether she owns a gun. It’s clear she doesn’t want anyone else to have one.”

As a prosecutor and DA she would have known you can't just walk into someones home without a warrant. Even Dems know that gun control to such extremes is unpopular, so I'd like to see the context around this video and what was said before or after.

All that said I doubt this moves the needle for anyone. Pro-gun owners aren't voting for her anyway. Also, things that were said years ago is all just "locker room talk" said in the past, amirite?

The right will want to paint her as anti-gun, but she says she owns one today. So I guess she flip-flopped once again on her stance, but this time to one that doesn't fit the MAGA narrative.

Or perhaps it's just a really visual description of what happens when someone's mouth out performs their brain...
Sure - I think it's an accurate image for what's described. Still, people should be able to state/defend their positions without having to reduce their argument down like that. Take the words you're disputing - as they were literally spoken - and tear them apart on their own.

In this case his very next line is “Taken at face value, this remark underscores our contention..." - After dismissing what she said as "word salad", he then has to go back and re-establish what she said, as she said it. He could have skipped the first part, and gone right into the second part, and had a better argument.

Saying what someone said/write is "word salad" is just trying to get a cheap dig in, and it should be beneath anyone who has the ability to win a debate based on their own beliefs/arguments.

Totally fake.

@NDallasRuss , don't you think this is a 4th amendment violation?

Should gun ownership obviate the government's requirement to articulate a reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed, affirmed by a court, before entering someone's home?

Harris has serious problems with the 1st, 2nd and 4th amendment.
