A few months back Indeed sent me a notification that someone was interested in my Resume. So I looked into it and that person(s) was National Weather Service. So for the past few months I've been back and forth with them.

After long discussions with Mrs. Sharky (no pics). We have decided to take the job.

I will be leaving the private sector to go back into the gov. world again in 30 days.

My new job starts as a GS-13 and will be headquartered in Vegas.

So to all those on the HORT who have said I didn't know sh*t about weather.

SUCK IT!!!

Good luck during your probationary period. I recommend not unpacking your desk box.

Congrats on the new job. I hear we are heading into global cooling in the next 10 years. What do you think?

While you and I often disagree, I wish you good luck in Vegas and congratulations!

Cool. Like forecasting based on model output? I do a bit of that with my storm-chasing hobby. (Use a lot of the stuff you'd find on https://weather.cod.edu/forecast/)
Model is one method and current surface and upper atmosphere data is probably the best.

Such as, in most cases at the time the high temp happens, if you take the dewpoint at that time that will be the forecasted low within (1-2 deg.) for the day, unless a front happens then you would gather the data behind the front at given sea level and estimate that as the low temp. Just an example.

Hmmm....I thought it would be higher. COL adj must not be as high as I thought it was in Vegas.

Good step range there though. Good luck. I think you may need it in this environment.
Thanks. If I took the job in L.A. then, yes a big COL would have happened. I did not want that job AT ALL. No spank you.

Good luck, Sharky. Personally, there's no way I'd take a govie position. You'll have a 2-year probationary period that will cause undo stress because of the unpredictability of DOGE. Heck, our first two TOs just dropped for BIM and I'm praying we get our proposal in and award happens before DOGE gets to us. LOL

got you... I'm used to planning chases with long range forecasting via models, but on the day of, it's upper atmosphere sampling and surface data that fine-tune your target.

Is this for the Vegas weather office? (guess im not sure what else it would be)

Part of why they were interested is I was once weathering in that region. It's boring most of the time. Pressure gradients are important there for the winds and shear aspect.

Forecasting and Data collection.
I have a question- when I go to various locations on NWS and put in a location, they all have the same looking data/forecast information. But when I click on the local office (ex. LaCrosse, Wi vs Corpus CHristi, Tx) they all have different "products" I can look at. Does each office have someone on site to provide those products?

Yes. Things at the local area are there, but reported to NWS, which publishes them. Hard copy data (written) are sent to Ashville NC and stored in data banks there.
