Robbie Hummel was fantastic.

Unfortunately I think that's true. Bias against the Big 10 and Iowa.

Yeah, he was recognizing how the POY has been selected in the past, not a dig at Garza at all. If Iowa wins out they'd be 14-6 in the conference which would be insane. I doubt that happens, but I also thought they'd struggle to win ANY games after losing CJF at Purdue. This team just keeps defying expectations. Impressive as hell.

Liked hummel other than he kept saying luka and Iowa had to almost win out for Garza to win national player of the year. Bullcrap, if he keeps playing close to what he is now he should win it, regardless of the number of wins.

I like Robbie Hummel, also, generally. Since I was at the game, last night, haven't seen the telecast yet.
A friend tells me that one of the announcers was pretty much
Cheering for Ohio st all game long. Who was with Hummel?

Exactly. If you go back and look at the recent winners for POY, every one of them has been on an elite top 10 team. The only 2 that stand out are Doug McDermott (Creighton) and Jimmer Fredette (BYU) but both of those guys had MONSTER seasons and helped earned their non-power conference teams earn a #3 seed in the NCAA Tourney.

Based on that, I would think that Iowa would need to at least earn a #4 seed for Garza to have a solid chance. That would mean that they need to have a really good finish to the reason and a good showing in the BIG Ten tournament.

Obviously I think Garza is deserving of the award based on what he has done in comparison to the other guys in the race. But based on history, his performance to date isnt enough at the moment.

I really enjoyed his commentary and thought he was really polished. The ASU vs. Oregon game following the Iowa game had Bill Walton. He is a complete buffoon.

You sound like this was the first time you've heard Hummel do a game.

I yelled at the screen several times that they should not forget to call the game, especially when I coudn't tell who the foul was on. When I saw the stats later I couldn't believe the line showed Garza with only two fouls, when I thought he had four.

Walton is entertaining. For the most part I don't care who calls it as long as they call it.

I think Garza and the Hawks doing well in the Dance could get the job done too. Make it as a 6, and beat an 11 and a 3 to make the Sweet 16, and I bet he’s a lock, assuming that he continues to play as he has

I thought they actually did a good job of slipping it in if you were listening closely... maybe you yelled over their note on the foul call? At least once they clarified that a call had gone on Toussaint rather than Garza.

I didn't care much for Robbie either although I agree his comments on Garza winning the award seemed realistic. Way too much idle chatter for my taste between both guys. Heavy OSU slant I thought particularly from the other announcer.

First time in awhile I was able to watch the game alone in peace and quiet. I don't recall having strong thoughts either way before, but this game impressed the hell out of me. I'm sure his general butt kissing of Iowa helped.

I would say it was more of trying to keep the game interesting when we were getting up by 15-16 or so and they'd knock it back to 10. He was just pointing out that we couldn't land the seeming-knock out punch, and he wasn't wrong. I watched most of it and didn't get a feeling of bias. I like Hummel's input and the broadcast team, even though i can't remember the PBP guy.

Jimmer Fredette is a good example of a player who excelled in college (averaged 22 points as a junior and nearly 30 as a senior) but who's game didn't translate into the NBA.

Reading the tea leaves, it sounds like there's a lot of love for the guy from Dayton (forget his name). If Luka continues this run of 20+ pts/game, at the very least it'll be very difficult for him to at the very least not be one of the finalists they bring to the Final Four. If nothing else, barring hospitalization for having all limbs chopped off by opponents he has to be the favorite for B10 POTY and 1st team all-big 10/all-American, right? I know virtually nothing about the other national poty guys to judge them.

The only thing that drove me nuts was that there were times when OSU got it to 9-10 points, the primary announcer seemed like he was trying to will OSU to go on a run after seeming cut into the lead. When in reality, OSU never seriously threatened Iowa the whole game.

Unless Iowa almost loses out, I think Luka is first-team AA and POY in the B1G. Hummel is probably right about Iowa and Luka finishing strong for him to get national POY. He is definitely a serious contender and probably in the top 2 right now.

Hummel is pretty good, as are Bardo and Morris, as the analyst. I thought the game was called pretty well and didn't show much bias either way.

I think it ruins my enjoyment to get mad at the guy calling the game. I think Hummel is solid and am fine with Bardo, except when he claims the Carver crowd used to stand the whole game. Dackich can be annoying because I don't know if he really believes everything he is saying but then I remember, "I don't care what he thinks.". When I remember that, I enjoy the game much more.

The exception is Dick Vitale. I can't listen to him for more than 5 minutes.

It's interesting watching a Dickie V. game from the 80's. KCRG 9.2 had Iowa @ Purdue from 1987 the other day, and Vitale was almost easy to listen to. Had interesting analysis and wasn't shouting. Took me about half of the game to realize that it was him. At some point, he bought into his hype machine and that became his schtick, the diaper dandy PTPer carp. I think Walton is going the same way. Everybody knows him as the druggie analyst, so that's how he calls the games now.

I actually liked Dickie V a couple of decades ago, but he makes listening to a game almost impossible for me. Jockitch has also become mostly annoying to me.

I agree with the OP about Walton, that he may become a caricature of himself. I like him now because I only get him in small doses. Last night was interesting because I love Walton and I love Caliendo but I thought they were both trying too hard. Fans get too offended too easily. I try to remember that but do not always succeed.

I think Hummel does a great job be it an Iowa game or not. I like how he calls game for multiple networkds. Bennetti I've been a huge fan of since he did the Iowa-ISU OT football game in 17'. I think he is very under rated. Bennetti not only does a great job of both bball and football but is actually the new play by play guy for the White Sox since Hawk Harrellson retired. He almost makes White Sox game worth tuning in for a few innings.

Most color commentators offer clichés and incorrect info about the teams. Walton is entertaining, I want entertainment.

I assume Walton has a decent amount of money. Therefore, he's eccentric.

If he was poor, he would be crazy.

That is my understanding of the rules on this matter.
