Robbie Hummel was fantastic.

Liked hummel other than he kept saying luka and Iowa had to almost win out for Garza to win national player of the year. Bullcrap, if he keeps playing close to what he is now he should win it, regardless of the number of wins.
It is wrong, but i think he may be right :(

I think Garza and the Hawks doing well in the Dance could get the job done too. Make it as a 6, and beat an 11 and a 3 to make the Sweet 16, and I bet he’s a lock, assuming that he continues to play as he has
You're thinking small buddy!

We beat the 11, then get a lucky draw and beat a 14, then we have our best shooting night of the year in the sweet 16 and everything beyond we're playing with house money.

Ok, maybe I'm thinking too small too!! :D

Haha I really hope you’re right!

I just meant that if Garza shows out for a few games in the tourney, it’ll be tough to pass him up in the POTY conversation

Iowa fans just want announcers ball washing the Hawks the whole time. Maybe it's other fan bases as well...but Iowa fans bitch & moan that the commentators are 'out to get the Hawks' all the time. Must be rough to watch a game with some of you, all you do is whine the whole time.

The only 2 complaints, such as they are, about last nights broadcast is that at the end of the game when tOSU was jacking 3's and actually making them they did the woulda/coulda game had they just made a couple of those earlier. The other one is that they kept doing the split screen thing. I don't need to see Fran get T'd, nor the kid from tOSU who was busting his hieny sitting on the bench. Show me the damn game.

I think Hummel does a good job. He always seems prepared and he offers solid, reasoned analysis without going over the top. I like Bardo better, but Steve sets a high bar. Whatever happened to the Crispen guy from PSU who used to do games? He was a little goofy at times, but still really good.

Exactly. If you go back and look at the recent winners for POY, every one of them has been on an elite top 10 team. The only 2 that stand out are Doug McDermott (Creighton) and Jimmer Fredette (BYU) but both of those guys had MONSTER seasons and helped earned their non-power conference teams earn a #3 seed in the NCAA Tourney.

Based on that, I would think that Iowa would need to at least earn a #4 seed for Garza to have a solid chance. That would mean that they need to have a really good finish to the reason and a good showing in the BIG Ten tournament.

Obviously I think Garza is deserving of the award based on what he has done in comparison to the other guys in the race. But based on history, his performance to date isnt enough at the moment.

Was thinking about that too....and also to Megan Gustafson. If Garza can comeback and help a talented and deep Iowa team win a BigTen Championships and get Iowa to a Final Four he'd have to be a favorite next year

I really enjoyed his commentary and thought he was really polished. The ASU vs. Oregon game following the Iowa game had Bill Walton. He is a complete buffoon.
Totally agree and thank you for pointing it out...

He repeatedly talked about how well the Iowa defense played in building their earl 19pt lead...

He is a well versed well spoken young man and could probably be a Fred Hoiberg type coach...

I think Bardo, Morris, and Hummel are all in 3 way tie for best, maybe the edge to Morris as he’s a jNWN kid and his intellectual horsepower is there, with Bardo having the 100-watt smile and personality, while Hummel is more of “just the facts” analysis.

dakixh isn’t even in the same league..

I like Robbie Hummel, also, generally. Since I was at the game, last night, haven't seen the telecast yet.
A friend tells me that one of the announcers was pretty much
Cheering for Ohio st all game long. Who was with Hummel?
Not true.

Did Morris retire? Don't believe I've seen him for awhile.

Hummel is really good and he is still playing basketball. On June 23, 2019, Hummel won a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Amsterdam.
He would have had a great Pro career if he hadn't been constantly plagued with physical injuries.

Hummel knows basketball and doesn't overanalyze. Maybe has a tough time being neutral if his Boilers are playing, but otherwise, really good.
