I was surprised when I saw this was still open. Any other local haunts in or around the Quad Cities still open that were around in the mid to late 80s? I recall one place having a burger and fries special for a dollar in maybe 1985? It was an Irish place and maybe on the main drag in Davenport or Betterdorff?
There was also a place I found that had 0.39 cheeseburgers around that time in Davenport. My Iowa grad school friend ( he was also a PSU alum) would come east and we'd each get a12 pack of Heilmann's Old style for $2.99. It might been my best worst beer and budget burger combination ever. The burgers were a little better than say McDonald's but we were happy paying $5 for the combination lol.
We'd usually watch football all day and well, drink and pig out.

He’s gotta be thinking of the Circle. $5 burger baskets everyday but used to be $2…. Rookies still has $1 burger baskets on Wednesday’s and tough to beat a Boozies burger.
I wish I could remember the name, I met this gym owner, Victor was his name I think. He owned State Street Fitness and was the captain or president of this Rugby club. I think they were called the Quad City Irish.

O'meara's Pub
I’m thinking this is bar I was thinking about. We’d stop there for beer while riding bikes down by the river. An order of natural cut French fries would feed four people. Seemed like the store front was painted brown & had a ramp for handicap access. Again, this has been 20 yrs ago. Memory is not so good. I’ve slept and had another beer since then…

Drank beer with Mojo Nixon at RIBCO early 90's
Okay. First of all I do not know who Mojo Dixon. Sounds too hip-hoppy for me but do provide details. I did have a co-worker who was lead for band called Mojo Rising. Saw them in East Moline. Also, EMO had some very bad strip bars. Never been but friend of mine mentioned Pustelinic(UNI) taking him there…. I actually lived in Moline.

Bam Pustelnik! YouTube Mojo Nixon Vibrator dependent, Debbie Gibson, good stuff- I'm unfortunately guilty of visiting The Mound back in the day!

Did Circle Tap have ribs one night a week? Remember them being good. Seems like they had them Tues nights and served on a cafeteria tray but may have bar wrong.

Yep. They still have them. Available every night…. They’re great if ya like crock pot style ribs. Just a pile of meat and bones. I despise them but lots of locals just love them.

I thought they were good back in the day. I remember liking Jim’s Rib Haven in Rock Island as well but can’t remember one being better than the other. Hadn’t been exposed to much BBQ at that time and have since lived Wichita, so a little more experienced with BBQ. My wife makes great ribs on our pellet grill.

Anyone partake in “The Mound”? Nick in during high school with friend and fake IDs. Worst “gentlemen’s club” ever, and by that, I am not talking about the food or beer.
Was the Mound in IL? Or is this in Mt Joy where maybe Southern Comfort used to be?

Sorry about your thread. I drank my share of Old Style back in the day. It was a favorite cheap beer of ours back in the 80’s and before Busch Latte’s came to be…

Since we’re talking QCA, here’s an odd story that kinda goes with the RIBCO theme.

After moving to Moline, our 1st QC pizza effort was Frank’s in EMO. Locals love it but wasn’t for us. Somebody said “Clint’s” in Moline. Tried it. Same(to us). Somebody said gotta try Harris’. Again, same. Sports Fans seemed the same as well, along with many others…We finally acquired a taste for Poor Boy’s on IL side.

After living in Wichita, we grew to miss the QC style pizza. Anyway, I come across article in Wichita Eagle said “QC style” pizza place coming to ICT called RIPCO. We were excited. Wichita had great local burger places but not much for pizza. Sadly, it never materialized…we found ourselves surprised how bummed we were.

I suffered for pizza for app 1-2 years. In Pa. it's no big deal to find a decent pizza. Finally I found a Greek place in Iowa city with NY style pizza ( deep dish is great, but I look at it like a casserole than pizza, yeah, yeah, I know). A few years later I found one in Davenport that I like but that was around 1988.

Never got there nor to any of the seedier places on IL side.

I had a co-worker who was somewhat inexperienced socially & nearly blind (wore both contacts & thick glasses). He lived in a downtown Davenport apartment and found a gal somewhere, who, unbeknown to him, ended up being a prostitute. He said it was a bit awkward having to pay somebody he’d “picked up in good faith”…

Maybe at Deb’s Touch of Class

You haven’t lived unless you hit the Yankee Clipper across the river.
