So, I'm with a group of about 7, and we have no idea what to do for tailgating before the game. We don't want to pay a huge amount to go to the official tailgate or anything. But obviously there will be plenty of Hawkeye fans with their own tailgates. We are flying in, so we won't have our usual tailgating gear with us. So, are there bars or restaurants nearby? (we are parking near the Rose Bowl) Or do we just need to make friends with surrounding Hawkeyes who came in an RV with all the necessary supplies?

There will be a free Rose Bowl Tailgate in Lot H.... free to get in anyways... I'm sure the beer and food cost money though. There will be vendors and a band playing. Plenty to do.

"On the grassy area of Lot H will be the Rose Bowl Tailgate. This is free and will be located in a giant tent. Will have activities, entertainment (they are implying there will be at least one major headline act playing), and interactive exhibits, live telecasts, as well as food and beverages. If there is anything worth seeing in the tailgating area, this is it."

We just plan on making sandwiches and having chips and dips and a cooler full of beer.

I think this is the route we're going to go too. If we need something else too eat I'm sure there will be vendors there willing to sell us a hamburger for $25...

No flames allowed from grills

Here is what I found. Have no idea what it means since it contradicts itself.

  • Open flames are not permitted in any tailgate or parking area. Charcoal grills are not permitted in the RV parking area (West Drive). All barbecue grills must be raised off the ground.
  • Charcoal grills are permitted in most tailgate areas. Please dispose of charcoal properly after use.

I think by open flame they mean you can't bring a fire pit to cook over. Charcoal grills are fine.
