A player runs down a loose ball by bouncing it and stops. He then starts his dribble. Why isn't this a double dribble? I see this a lot so it must be ligit but seems strange.
All about control. If they happen to bounce it while scrambling, there isn't any control until they hold it. If it's just a casual bounce without any pressure, there likely is control.A player runs down a loose ball by bouncing it and stops. He then starts his dribble. Why isn't this a double dribble? The interpretation of the rule has changed in the last several years. Back in the day, it would have been called double dribble. The rules for traveling have loosened as well. They now give you an extra step while you "gather" the ball.A player runs down a loose ball by bouncing it and stops. He then starts his dribble. Why isn't this a double dribble? A lot of times where you see this is when it hits a receiving player in the hands and drops it and picks it back up before dribbling. No control when it hit him in the hands.
The situation I'm talking about is a guy that casually recovers the ball by bouncing. I get the control thing but this is obvious in my estimation. I just saw it again early in the Mich. Louisville game. The rule should be enforced or rewritten.
There is much I don't like about basketball. The time out call when a player is going out of bounds is just ridiculous.
The game is too fast for a human to call with any accuracy.
There is more but I'm ranting. I'm ready for some football.
