Buying a new RV - first time RV owner. I'm sure I have plenty of lessons to learn and have tried to do as much research as possible to prepare myself. I've been pitched RV extended warranties out to 7 years. I'm pretty sure I need one, but have read terrible terrible reviews about the company the dealer is pitching - American Guardian. I've read good things about Good Sam warranties and also Wholesale Warranty.com. Anyone have some good advice for companies or about these warranties in general? They can run from $2,000 to $13,000 with or without deductibles. Thanks!

Most extended warranties (on anything) never cover what actually breaks on the merchandise.

Anyway, I'd look for the longest "bumper to bumper" offer. Also make sure you check the terms in case the warranty place goes out of business. Most of my pain with extended warranties is the original provider goes under or gets bought out, it can be difficult to get services or even contact info from the new owner of the agency.

I am not an RV'er, so I can't offer much advice other than the people that I do know that have the nice ones seem to always be replacing a huge windshield, repairing a massive scrape/scratch on the side, etc. I don't know why, but it sure seems as though they get more than their share of road damage and so forth...and the repairs are not cheap by the sounds of it.

I don't have much to offer as far as the extended warranties go, but just wanted to say congrats on the RV purchase. We bought one a year ago, and have loved it. I did let the finance gal tack on an extended warranty, I don't have the folder with me currently to know the $$$ or even which company it is.

Good Sam is a good membership to buy for the 10% nightly discount if you are going to be staying in many parks that accept Good Sam. I cannot offer any info at all about their warranty program. I will say, if you have anything to do with Good Sam (and Camping World as they are the same company), pay real close attention to everything. In my experience, they are shady, especially when it comes to memberships, renewals, supposed benefits, etc. I receive mailings constantly with cards that are disguised as "new" or "replacements". Closer examination shows that it is simply an attempt by them to entice more "upgrade" fees. They also got me at the CW store one time. Early Saturday morning, they spew their normal crap at the checkout about "renew for this many years for this reduced price, plus get a $50 coupon..." Ok, fine..... I receive the new membership card in the mail a week later, and it says my membership now expires one year SOONER than it had when I walked into the store that morning. Wow, thanks! Great deal!
